Does pornography exploit women or is this an outdated stereotype?

I'm sure I remember reading somewhere that a fair proportion of porn actreses and prostitutes were sexually abused when younger.if this is true, consumers of porn are affirming this cycle. What do you reckon?

Answers:
The porn industry is just like any other industry. There are big players who have strict rules and so on, and fly by night operations that are less strict.

The big players have a pool of actors and actresses they can call upon and these actors and actresses are well remunerated and have to undergo frequent health checks and so on.

Safety, consent and proper remuneration are relatively assured in this system.

In the fly by night companies, there can be more risks and so on.

But the main thing is that being a porn actress is a career choice.

If you see them as being exploited, then you are saying that we all, who are not self-employed, the working masses, are also exploited.

I don't think we have to justify our career choices. Not everyone who was sexually abused when young ends up being a porn actor/actress (you shouldn;t restrict your exploitation to females because males can also be sexually abused). Not all porn actors/actresses were sexually abused when younger. While sexual abuse can 'predispose' someone to be more open to the porn industry, I don;t think you can use it as an excuse or a reason.

We all have our demons, and we all deal with them. Our choices are ours, we shouldn't keep on bringing up the past, after all we (who are making career choices) are all grown up, aren't we?

In sum, my answer is a double no:
1 Joining the porn industry as an acting talent is a career choice.
2 It's a choice, not a compulsion, so nothing to do with a cycle or abuse.
what about gay porn? didnt think about that did ya?
alot that ive met yes. but i thinkthat porn doesnt just exploit women, it exloits degenerates
Last time I looked there were a whole heap of men actin in those porn films. How come you dont think they're being violated?
outdated stereotype if you ask me.

I think they CHOOSE to be a prostutite or porn actess.
Our society is becoming more sexually free, which is good. Sexual repression leads to sexual violence (i.e. priests). The porn industry is changing quite a bit. It's not quite as shocking, many famous actors have had tapes leaked that no one really raised and eyebrow to. With the change in society, it's now a choice and not an abuse of women.
prostitutes, however, rarely choose their life. They are living a life of violence.
That's why i watch only "a night in Paris Hilton".
oi oi Dave

It seems to me that the average person slaves away for 40 or more hours a week just to keep a roof over the head and feed themselves, if they are lucky enough to have a bit left over then they might get to have a couple of weeks on an all inclusive in Majorca.

Your average porn star probably earns multi thousands per week just for getting f**ked. If I had been born a good looking female instead of an average looking bloke I wouldn't have minded getting exploited.

If the woman works it right and invests wisely then 10 years in the game can have her sorted for life. How bad is that?

As far as being abused when younger; maybe some were, maybe some just get their rocks off being exhibitionists. It would depend on how well the article was researched and the views of the person who wrote it.
No. Women in porn exploit themselves.
It does exploit men and women, but it's their choice if they want to objectify themselves.
I dont think they are being exploited as they choose to do it.
They could get another job if they wanted to.
