Go with it...you are learning a new language and experiencing a new culture somewhat...there is nothing wrong with that..it's very healthy. Perhaps you will try other cultures too....years ago when me and my boyfriend spent an evening in together we would have a theme nite..rent a foreign film (say spanish) cook spanish food...was always enjoyable and is still very memorable. Keep learning new experiences! I love Japanese food and enjoy their culture too...have fun!

I am Japanese and I can describe Japanese history a little.
Chopsticks are believed to have been introduced to Japan from China in the 5th century. When introducing Budhism to Japan in the middle of the 6th century through areas along the Silk Road, many Chinese customs and Chinese characters (Kanji) are introduce to Japan, as well. And Buddhism combined with original Japanese religion, Shintoism. Shintoism is the kind of a religion which divine country centering on the Japanese emperor. Actually, the origin of the Japanese language remains obscure. We just borrowed Chinese characters from China for a long time ago and arranged it (we produced "hiragana" and "katakana") over time. This is why, Japanese grammar is much different from Chinese.
All the above are brief Japanese history regarding Japanese language and chopsticks. If you want to learn Japanese language , I will recommend you to watch Japanimation (i.e. Initial D). The conversations which are spoken in the Japanimation have basic and popular phrases of Japanese conversation.
