Altered states in this context include sleep, hypnosis, coma, and the effects of psychoactive drugs.

Quantum physics opened the door
to the frontier where science and spirituality meet.

The Message Company began producing consciousness conferences six years ago with the International Conference on Spirituality in Business, which grew into the International Conference on Business and Consciousness.

In 1999, we launched the International Conference on Science and Consciousness. This unique conference is a forum for the exploration of consciousness from the scientific and spiritual perspectives.

At the end of the first conference, Jeffrey Mishlove, President of the Intuition Network and host of Public Television’s “Thinking Allowed,” said “There has been a tendency for conferences that have the name science in the title to be very much in the head, and to have a kind of competitive edge, which scientists often have. But this event was very whole, very heart centered and very much needed by our culture at this time.”

The International Conference on Altered States of Consciousness evolved from this foundation. This new conference explored in a thoughtful manner the myriad of experiences that we call altered states of consciousness.

Each of us has experienced an altered state of consciousness at some time in our lives. Sometimes it can happen quite on its own, and come to us as a surprise. Sometimes people seek it out. It can be brought about by ingesting a substance or be the result of years of diligent discipline. It is at the root of every spiritual and religious tradition. Even the feeling of love can bring about a sense of euphoria. From shamanism to scientific investigation, the desire to understand altered states is ever present.

People are having experiences that are not explained by the old scientific paradigm, and we are called to reconsider our cultural view of reality. This is a forum where philosophy and theories of consciousness from both the scientific and spiritual perspectives can be shared.

Very little.
You will learn that madness and psychotic delusion are not too far away. Go poking around in your psyche and conciousness just for some sort of "scientific" experimentation and you will end up in a locked ward in a jacket with arms that tie behind your back.
Look at that dim Aussie psychologist who treid to find a way for all of us to be savants by tripping with Idiot Savants, He is on antipsychotics and has had a lot of admissions to the acute ward. Also, look at poor John C Lilly who tried to communicate with Dolphins by tripping out with them and spent much of his time tripping in an isolation tank. He died in a psychiatric chronic ward, poor fellow. I do not even have to mention Timothy Leary do I? Your mind is a rather finely tuned and sensitive tool and can only stand so much bad treatment. Do not screw it up by some ill advised unscientific idiocy.
