Could you live with a full face transplant ?
I`ve just been reading that sugeons in the UK have had the go ahead to do their first full face transplant.i am only speaking for my self but i can`t imagine anything more horrifying than if every time i looked in the mirror i saw a dead persons face looking back at me .how would it make you feel ?
i admit i`m biased i have a bit of a phobia about dead things (birds ,cats rabbits) if i see them outside

What you must remember is that the transplant is only the flesh, as you retain your own bone structure the face you will see in the mirror will be a hi-bred of your own and the donors, with a higher tendency to look like your own.
People who get pace transplants have either lived without a face or with a face so scarred that they have not been able to look at themselves in the mirror, usually for many years.
If the choice is transplant or no face, the I would choose transplant.
Please remember, that these people have been discriminated against for the entire time that they have borne their scars, they don't need any more discrimination from people who are ignorant of the facts or who feel squeamish at the thought of a transplant.
This is a difficult decision to make, do you remain scared and ugly for the rest of your life or take the chance to lead a normal (!!) life.
I could not do it as it would only prove that the people that call me two faced were right all along.
Physically & Medically, im not sure as its probably too soon to determine the acceptance rate.
But personally, I wouldnt want to, I would prefer cosmetic surgery in the horrific accident that she had

If someone was totally vein and thought they were ugly I can see its appeal, but only to them. I personally couldnt go ahead with it.
However, surgery to get rid of my extra chin could be a goer.

I'm an embalmer and we do this with autopsied bodies. That way we don't have to move bodies, just change the faces.

There are people who have been in accidents that require them to have a new face. Won't this ruling be good for people like them?! They can have a life!
If your face wa as badly scarred, you'd be grateful for a chance to go out and face the world again. It's not a dead person's face - your face is made up by the muscles and bone structure. It's the same with a heart. If your child was dying and needed a new heart, what would do? I'd give thanks for a heart transplant.

Well, the skin wouldn't be dead would it - they couldn't put dead skin back on you! If I had to have a full face transplant then I would - I can't think of anything worse than having to live with no face or no jaw so you have to be specially fed for the rest of your life and I'm sure if push came to shove you'd have it done.

They've done face transplantation in UK to a girl whose face and body was totally distorted due to burn scars. For this reason, it might be necessary to go through it. For me, it would be better to see somebody else face in the mirror than the one that looked like Freddy on Elm Street.
I think I'd rather have someone elses face than a major disfigurement caused my a fire etc.

hi, it does sound creepy but imagine being terribly burnt or disfigured in some way.all those poor unfortunate people who have suffered all theirs lives because of disfigurement through disease or genetic abnormalities or because they have been attacked. Earlier this year a face transplantation was carried out in France on a woman who had her face ripped off by a dog, apparently it was very successful, good luck to her i say because her life will never be the same and her whole course of life will take a different track. In this world image and beauty are incredibly important so although i think face transplanted should never be used cosmetically IE to give an old woman a young woman's face, i do think if it will help someone live a normal as possible life and is to help someone who has suffered and been disfigured it is good. But i would be concerned about black market IE faces for sale for the very wealthy wrinklies.
