If you were a sociologist, you would be looking at the effect of shoes on society, and how different socio-economic groups use shoes in society.
For functionalists.. they would be asking what the function of shoes are in society, and that shoes have a function.
For Marxists. the impact that shoes have within a capitalist society.. for example.. the poor make them for the rich
For Weberians.. the division of power experienced in the making of shoes.
All sociologists would ask open questions to establish facts, and seek to use sociological theories to explain their existence, and the effects of them existing in society.
