Why do gyms insist you wear very specific things?
I'm getting a lot of hassle from my local gym these idiots keep telling my not allowed to wear certain things. I'm perfectly comfortable in my jeans and tshirt and I asked them if they had a problem with the soles of my shoes being black and they said no but still I get greif for not wearing trainers. Is this like a golf thing? I'm perfectly comfortable I only go for weights not cardio. I'm sure larry david would agree.

Hmm that's weird you should start going to a different gym..my gym never says anything to any one about what they wear!..unless specified in your agreement with them you can wear what you want & it's really none of their business you should tell them that.that would really make me mad.remember you pay them to use their equipment not to get their wardrobe advice!
Tell them to mind their own Buisness.
Some clothes are easier to more in. JEANS and DRESS SHOES or HEELS ARE NOT RUNNING MATEIRAL. Gym shoes and Tshirts are NICE 2 me anyways
some gyms are very aware of the health and safety issues ie:- loose clothing getting trapped in mechanisms etc.but if your attire is suitable then tell them you think it is and you will not hold them responsible
I personally wear a deep sea diving suit when I go to the Gym.
I dont have any problems, though it is usually closed by the time I have managed to walk there.
I think its a safety thing. I don't know what type of shoe you are wearing but trainers support your ankles best.
If you only do weighs you should try and do at least one session of cardio or you're going to burn out.
I would not see the problem with it but gyms are really picky on what you are required to ware in the gym
I guess it is their own little dress code they got going on
Different environments have different dress codes because those dress codes reinforce the activities going on in those environments. Most offices don't want their workers wearing casual close because they want the office to be a serious place of business and not treated casually. It's easy to hurt yourself in a gym, and managers want you to take that seriously too. If people don't dress appropriately for the gym, there's a good chance that they're not concentrating on what they're doing. That leads to accidents.
Certain clothing being dangerous because they can catch in some machines - and certain fabrics are preferred for 'breathablity' and sweat absorption, so you don't overheat - and trainers/sneakers are best for ankle support and traction on the machines. Just wear a pair of shorts with your tee shirt and a pair of rubber souled shoes. is it so hard?
