Sigmund freud was the last scientist to do a detailed study on the constant abuse of cocaine?

Given that freud was a raving cokehead, do you think his paranoid ravings ( a classic effect of coke abuse) had anything to do with his obvious desire to PHUCK his mother. How is it that so many modern day psychiatrists etc still follow this twisted paranoids delusions

Answers:
I am working towards a degree in Psychology and while I am no fan of Freud, some of his work I think does have a use of today and I do not believe that makes me a Freud apologist.

For one thing, he did come up with the 'talking cure' which is used by many counsellors/psychologists with helping to treat patients. Did he not also deal with the issues of transference and counter-transference? Something also of importance to those who treat patients.

His stages, while not a fan of their names, I think what they detail and how they lead to disorder is important. Freud was also a fan of balance within these stages, something else that is important to us.

But there are a lot of theories out there and I do not think any one particular theory is right, I think they are all good at explaining certain parts and so we should take a look at them all together.
You are sadly misinformed and confused. Freud was NOT the last psychiatrist to study the psychological effects of cocaine; in fact, he was most likely one of the first. Doctors and psychologists study the effects of drug abuse to this very day.
And saying the ideas and theories of Freud, who most experts agree to be the "Father of Psycho-analysis" are twisted and paranoid, is unfair and close-minded. When you mentioned his desire to "phuck his other" you are referring to his theory of the "Oedipus Syndrome." Sorry to say, pal, but, that idea has pretty much been proven, in view of the fact that 90% of violent criminals came from uncaring or unloving mothers.
Also, his ideas on the id, ego, super-ego, dream analysis, anal retentiveness, religous brainwashing, etc are still used today and have been proven time and again.
He was also the first psychiatrist to use psycho-analysis! Freued may have been a bit obsessed with his sex-related theories, but almost every scientist is off-base on some of his ideas.
You sound threatened by his Oedipus idea. Hmm..I wonder why that is?
He did lots of great for Psychology and not only do professionals in the Mental Health field believe him, many others also do! If it was not for him modern day shrinks would not have Psychotherapy. So think what they would do without that? All medical tests going nowhere, drugs till you are harmed, more abusive restraints. I myself like a lot of and believe his theories!

Gee, guy, though you're crude, you are much closer to the truth than those apologists for Freud that answered previously. Stick to your guns. It is time psychology divested itself of it's more embarrassing constructs and entered the twenty first century. Oh, by the way Freud was not the last "scientist" to study cocaine.

PS I, also have a BA in psychology, but I try not to mention it in polite company. The company of my fellow ethologists, that is.
