“What happens when a big asteroid hits earth?

Answers:
mass extinction is most likely
KABOOOOOOOMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!!. End of life.
I don't know exactly - but I'm guessing it would be very, very bad.
Depends how big.

people would die
If it's big enough, it ejects debris from the impact out into space (along with a significant fraction of our planetary atmosphere) and the planet becomes drastically changed from that which we've evolved to live. In other words, we die.

If it's not that big, but still large enough to cause catestrophic damage, it can change regional or global climate for a few years. A ocean strike is alleged to be worse than a land strike, and since we are 70% water here on Earth, that makes the chances good it would be a water strike. The water vaporized into our atmosphere would recondesnse in the higher altitiudes and blanket the Earth for years, reflecting the much-needed sunlight and cooling the planet dramatically. instant ice age.
Read the 7th paragraph down of this and it explains the effects of an asteroid hitting both land and at sea. The rest makes pretty interesting reading as well.

We all die.
i dont know
and we never will as if one falls we are gonna be banished and we wont live to tell the tale of what happened. i can imagine it though.....BBBBBBBBBBB. XXX
ALL MEN DIE except me and i get left with 4000 hot women and i have a mission to repopulate the earth >.> ^__^
Don't worry it will never happen,Bruce Willis and crew are on permanent stand by.He will save us.
If they fail, well goodbye nice knowing you if its a biggy.
The earth will not exist anymore.
Wouldn't be any veterans from that.
Depends if it arrives in George Bushs time. If so it'll disappear up his great big ****. (Hopefully!!)
Just take a look at the large impact craters that are still evident after millions of years of erosion and major changes in climate etc; Then try to imagine the giant dust clouds that blanketed the earth and caused major shifts in weather patterns. We are all aware of how emissions and greenhouse gasses are impacting our daily lives.Try to visualise this phenomena greatly magnified and happening within milliseconds of a major impact..Then think about trigger happy nuclear armed nations thrown into the equation..Doesn't bear thinking about does it ? In the meantime lets live our lives to the fullest and hope for peace prevailing in the world and also any major Asteroids out there keep a few light years distance from our corner of the galaxy eh?
I do hope Bruce Willis and Co are not around to help if it happens.

It depends on how big is big. If you want to worry about more things then check out what else is likely to cause "armageddon".
go to the highest mountain with a big bottle of vodka/gin/whiskey (or whatever take ur fancy),and get a ringside seat and watch that fireball get closer and closer. Believe me it will b spectacular. And before u know it , it will b all over.
Bit of a bang and some smoke I would imagine, not possible for anything worse than that I hope.
In your dreams pal.
We will be history.
Depends how big
a great big hole and climate change
