I posted a card yesterday first class at 2pm. it hasn't arrived today at a destination 20 miles away.?
is it likely to arrive tommorow or has it been lost/stolen?
Answers:
It should be there tomorrow, I'm surprised it's not there today though. I know the Royal Mail is bad but it's not often letters go missing. Trouble is, there is no way of chasing it up when it hasn't been sent by recorded delivery.
They don't call it "snail mail" for nothing. Mail is hardly ever delivered overnight.
it can take up to three days for first class to arrive.
If you want to send something really fast you need to use recorded or special delivery.
You should have walked it there yourself. you are just being lazy.
It should have arrived today, maybe there was a delay in the postal system somewhere and it missed the collection. Should be here tomorrow without fail.
It's Royal Mail - It could be lost stolen it could arrive tomorrow or in a week its hit and miss really.
I don't know if it's where i live because im out in the country but 1st class mail never gets to me the next day it takes about 3 or 4 .
It doesn't make much difference how far it's got to go - they don't guarantee next day delivery just cos it's first class. If you want next day delivery you have to use special delivery and pay extra. It'll probably arrive tomorrow (but then anything's possible with Royal Mail).
they try I'm sure but somewhere along the line it all goes wrong
Like everything these days, the service has gone downhill although we are paying more for the service. The second class letters seem to arrive just as quick as the first class letters, so there does not appear to be any benefit by posting first class as there used to be.
Your letter did not go straight from wherever you posted it to the address.
1. Postman empties postbox.
2. Postman puts sack of post in van.
3. Postman takes coffee / ciggie break.
4. Postman goes home for a sleep.
5. Postman remembers sack of post.
6. Postman hides sack of post.
7. Postman retrieves sack of post and opens all the envelopes with money in.
8. Postman puts remainder of post in post box.
9. Postman empties postbox, and misses your letter.
10. It's Sunday. Postbox fills up.
11. Postman empties postbox.
12. Letter eventually ends up at sorting office.
13. Postman delivering post is illiterate, so puts your post in wrong house.
14. Inhabitant of house delivers your letter. 3 weeks later.
Does that answer your question?
Let's see. twenty miles in twenty hours makes one-mile-per-hour. Yep. Carrier pigeons and the Pony Express still beat all our modern post services hands down.
Mail goes to certain central sorting stations, which may be hundreds of miles from where it was mailed or its destination. Once there, it is loaded onto a truck or plane and will go to the city of destination. Be proud of our mail workers. What a job! Millions and millions of pieces of mail all for a few dimes. Personally, I am impressed with the efficiency of the system. You should check out other countries!
no most of the time its bette to di it before 12 pm or even better if u do it 9 or 10 o clock in the morning, thats a sure for that it reaches the destinantion the next day. and urs will be on its way dont worry..its not lost or nething wrong with it.
royal mail has changed delivery again, it now takes longer to receive mail if u dont live in cities or populated areas
problem is if more ppl move to cities we make a bigger 'footprint' of energy in them which makes things worse for environment
if in Canada, give it a month
