When is it best to answer a question with a question?
Answers:
Jewish people always ask questions and like to answer questions with another question. So, it's just something I must do.
Seriously, though, on UKQnA.com, when I am answering sometimes, I put in a question to the questioner because I am thinking out loud, and I am also trying to help the questioner - to be aware of some aspect that he wasn't aware of which may help with the answer to his question.
Does this help answer your question? If not, please clarify and I await your new question.
What?
Wouldn't you do that when you want more detail?

When you don't know the answer as the question is unclear. Or if you don't want to answer the original question. Or if you are a politician.
Why do you ask?

When you think that some of the details are missing.
When you don't want to lie.
When you don't want to give an answer!! ;-)
Why do you want to know?
When you are trying to avoid answering the initial question.
when someone asks a question, and deep down they know the answer, it is prudent to give them the opportunity to resolve their own dilemma rather than disempowering them by assuming we know the right answer for them, so i would ask, why is a question a good answer?
When being interrogated by the police.
I don't know. You tell me?
when they ask, "where have you been all night"
When are you going to stop asking stupid questions?
The best time to answer a question with a question is when you know the answer, but you want the person asking you to really think, instead of just giving them the answer. When a person is forced to think, he is given more power and more ability than when the offer is offered to him.
when the original question cannot be answered due to lack of talent of asking questions. obviously?
What do you mean ?
when you know the answer when it is a question
When you want to control the conversation.
when you don't know the answer and you want 2 points
Could you repeat the question?
I usually only do it when the person asking me a question asks a rhetorical or otherwise unanswerable question.
When you are a politician ??
Would you rather I tell you the answers, or lead you so that you can figure out the answer on your own?
Answering questions with questions allows you to change the listener's point of view by deliberately misunderstanding or misrepresenting their prior views.
