I agree with monkeyface. Be affectionate, and treat her wonderfully all the time. She will give you things in return, don't worry.
Try and do a little extra for her and insist that it's fine for her to go out shopping with her friends. And of course there's no budget for the shopping spree!
Is this something you do all the time? Do you get things done around the house that need to be done? If my husband wants to watch the World Cup (which he does) I don't stand in his way. He works everyday, he does what needs to be done around the house, he plays with the kids - I see no reason to keep him from what he likes. How is it with you? Maybe you should ask yourself why she DOESN'T want you watching sports instead of how to get her to accept it..

yes, buy her some candles and bath salts. run her a nice bath. get her a nice bottle of wine and a book/cd whatever she like to chill out and promise her a massage after the match. works for me!

the answer to this question has been overlooked by everybody so far. If you had laid the law down about who is the boss in your relationship at a very early stage in your relationship you wouldn't be having this problem. But beware you have to time it right, You can't start too early or you'll just drive the girl away, you need to get her head over heels in love with you & then . then you start turning the screw gently oh so gently and then before you know it you are on the path to having a great relationship with your wife/g'friend. haha, we've been having this discussion at work. we're holding ann summers parties for the footy widdows while the men are down the pub getting drunk! many girls are demanding the men give them an allowance lol

give her moeny to go out..or suggest that she has the girls around for pizza and a film and then you go to the lads for the footie

Why don't you just ask her if you can watch the footie? I'm sure she has some stuff to be getting on with, and you can repay the favour by letting her watch something she wants to watch next time. Maybe ask if she'd want to watch with you, even if you know she most likely wouldn't, just so she feels she has been offered and considered. Respect earns brownie points. You shouldn't have to be "allowed" to watch footie by your wife, but by the same token you need to compromise. If you have kids you need to help her get them sorted out before you sit down to football.
