Sure there is. Every choice you make, you are deciding against the other. You won't know it is an opportunity lost until you realize that the choice you did make didn't work out.

Opportunities are things which present to us over which we need to make a choice. We can CHOOSE to not follow the opportunity or follow it as we see fit. Everything in life is a choice, right down to getting up in the morning.
I believe what you are talking about is "fate" or "chance" and although I do believe in fate, I still believe I can make choices about things that change the possibilities which present themselves to me.
I believe that in life opportunities present themselves to you, it is whether you are ready for them that is the crux. If you don't take them it is because you are not conciously ready to further your experience on the spiritual level you are at. If you do take the opportunity, it is up to you, whether it fails or succeeds, to learn from that opportunity and experience. It's all good at the end of the day - what's meant to be will be! Even when you can't see a reason for the daily happenings in our lives (death, divorce, accidents, redundancies, cheating partners, bad Bosses, horrid friends etc., etc.,) usually once the situation has passed you can see with more clarity - these struggles and how we address them shape us into a wiser, less judgemental human being

An opportunity can only be judged as good or bad in hindsight. Making choices for your self is based on a number of variables which a person computes in their head or to people around them and then look at what is probably the best option at that time.
The next day that same opportunity might not look so good.
