Why are women expected to be smoothe while men can be hirsute or smoothe?
why am expected to shave my legs, even though i arlways wear trousers? likewise, why am i expected to shave my arm pits whereas men dont have to worry about this? if it's for smelly reasons, then men should be the ones expected to shave their armpits etc as they smell more than women when they sweat.
just for the record, i am smoothe just for the sake of convention and a quiet life, lol, only i have asked this question many times and never got a rational, socratic answer. seeing as it's a saturday night, i daresay al get some stupid answers here aswell, but you never know, i could be pleasantly surprised lol..

your so right here and i couldnt agree more. i dont know how dis thinkin evolved but its definatly not fare on us. we have so much hassle where as the man dont but it make us look nicer too so mayb we can look at it from another point of view ;)
\Why not ask your other half to shave his underarms and legs then, for the sake of equality. I also think that men are now expected to shave their bodies more so now than they used to be. And men tend to have much more hair to shave than do women. We'd have a shortage of steel if men were expected to shave their every last hair off their bodies.
Oh, and how do men smell more than women when they sweat? Is that because we have something in our bodies that makes all men smell? Maybe it's the fact that men have hairy armpits, which trap pheromones, which is what you smell.
Why then, being a lesbian, do you even care whether a man is hairy or smooth? I can't say it bothers me either way how men or women of any sexual orientation wear their hair, upstairs or down below. There are far more important things in life to worry about. And can you lay off the sweeping generalisations please? Thanks a lot.
OK, let me know if this is rational. The women are expected to be smooth, because just naturally women are less hairy then men. They almost never have any facial hair, chest hair, and usually they have much less arm and leg hair. Some lucky women don't even have to shave their legs because they only have very find blond hairs that you can hardly see.
So we associate Hairy = male and Smooth = female. In order to be more 'feminine' it becomes the custom for women to creat even more smooth skin. But part of this is also a learned cultural thing. In the states, hairy armpits on women are "gross" but this is not a problem in Europe. It's a matter of what we see in the media and get taught is beautiful for women. Also, since the men dominate society, the women have to do what men like. The men control the media for the most part and thus we are harder on women and expect more from them in the looks department. Men are valued for intelligence and women for looks.
It´s all a matter of culture. in our culture, smooth women is what gets guys, in other cultures it's the reverse. what got this so world wide spread is that the culture which colonized most of the world descended from the roman culture in which smooth (for both men and women) was the way to go
I shave because it feels nice. If I didn't want to.I wouldnt. What I dont get is why men (especially the ones w/ big floppy man boobs) dont have to wear shirts and women do. Go figure.its a mans world.

If you expect to get some action from the opposite sex then you should shave your legs and under your armpits. It's more feminine looking. It's aesthetics. Women are to look dainty, soft, radiant and beautiful. Hair on the legs and under the arms don't look good. Men look masculine with hair on the legs. Some women prefer men without hair on the chest. It goes both ways.
I suppose it comes down to the typical stereotyping of men and women where as men are supposed to be rough and gruff (manly if you like) and women are supposed to be chiqe and svelte.

Because we take what makes us different and accentuate it. Women are less hairy so they shave to accentuate the difference. Nobody says you have to, most women I know do it because they think it's gross to be hairy.
