In the UK a person is filmed 300 times by CCTV is this a infringement on our civil liberties?
Answers:
A couple of years ago,a girl was murdered in a town near to me.By using the film taken in the town centre,The Police were able to prove that she was being followed by a man.The man later confessed and was sentenced to prison for the murder.
I know that the CCTV did not prevent the crime, but it helped catch the killer.
sounds to me like a good enough reason for CCTV.
why are you concerned? if you are doing what should be done and not breaking any laws then who cares. I'm glad I'm being looked after, who knows maybe one day you'll need to be traced and the footage may help.
unfortunetly living in the uk you have no civil liberties which means the government can basically follow you about all day with a cam corder and you cannot sue, one of the better points about it is it seems a safer place to live.
Although the government do tell you about the cameras they are actually under no obligation to do so.
no its not, but 300 isn't accurate number.it is weird and a waste of power
No, as long as the tapes aren't made public and aren't used for profit. If you are out in public, you have no expectation of privacy.
I think security is good in its place, but do we all want to be filmed walking down the street? I don't agree with it all, but things like the Jamie Bulger murder all those years ago go to show that CCTV in public places is there for a good reason.
no
it is for our own protection and saftey
thats good to know,as it makes me feel safer
No I do not believe it is if it is being used for our own security, the problem starts if somebody or the Govt start monitoring us for their own gain, whether that is financial or self promotion.
Well I don't know about you, but it doesn't bother me, I have nothing to hide. I would rather know that I am being watched so if (god forbid) anything happened to me or any of my friends or family, there is a chance they were caught on camera which increases the chances of the culprits being caught. I think the only people that complain about CCTV are the ones who have something to hide.
we should get fees like actors then we wouldnt mind
Ve Vill Be Vatching You
Definately not. Why should it be? If you have nothing to hide then it should.t bother you in the slightest.
I'm sure if the CCTV caught an old lady being robbed or CCTV led to a murderer being caught we'd all be saying how great it is. Which it is.
As there is not enough Police on the streets this provides a little extra security when needed.
you shouldnt believe every statistic you hear in adverts.
you may pass infront of that many cameras but they
a. may not be linked to a recording device
b. may not be monitored
c. might not even be plugged in.
No. And I happen to share your obvious disgust about the "Big Brother" is watching you society we all now live in. Remember George Orwell wrote about this way back in the sixties when he wrote '1984' - he saw it coming.
I'm afraid the "Good old Days" are gone for ever and in general that is why man's natural life scan is three score years and ten - the shocks to our mind and bodies when we get older is what has happened to the world we all once knew, I do believe it was better.
You could always leave if you don't like it, but seriously if your not doing anything wrong way worry.
But does it not make you feel safer knowing that big brother is watching over you ?
no cause there are lots of thieves in the uk
Only if you believe you really have any Civil Liberties/Rights.
You can have a lot of fun with this if you are in England.
There is a law called the data protection act. Primarily it covers computer data, but it also includes any machine that collects images. That includes video surveillance cameras. The law states it is within your rights to request a copy of all tapes that have your face on. Anyone who keeps tapes has to supply you with it by law.
If we all did this, we could cause a lot of trouble!!
Have fun. ;-)
