Does feeding children food that makes them obese amount to child abuse?
And how can the circle be broken without if the parent refuses to adress their own eating behaviours/habits?
Answers:
Overfeeding your child should be illegal.
not feeding them at all is abuse.people need to read about fat content..we all need to get educated about nutrition..
Yes,
First and foremost the children should be the first priority, if the parent wants to kill themselves that's fine but the child or children's well being comes first
Come on, you know what child abuse is.
Is it the proper thing to do?
No.
Yess..it is Child abuse...A parent is responsible foe his or her child..soo anything that happens to that child is completely your responsability...many children are abese because their parents stuff them with food just soo they wont hear them cry..and i'm sorry but that is entirely the parents fault
If that was the case ..look how many parents would be in jail...
Yes, I would say it's a less serious form of child abuse, because the child is counting on their parent to keep them healthy at an age when they can't look out for themselves. I just don't understand why people would overfeed their kids. Childhood obesity is so serious in this country, and parents need to stop pushing their bad habits on their kids. If that means saying "no," often, it means saying no. Would you rather have your kid temporarily upset because you didn't let them have that extra piece of cake, or have their health in danger for what could be their whole life?
I believe though that some situations it is cheaper and more pleasing to the children to eat at the fast food places. I grew up eating alot of beans - and I hated it. Wished my mom would have taken us to the MC D or Burger King instead many a night.. it is a financial situation for some. I know when I shop for only healthy stuff - it puts a dent in my solo income a month compared to my other expenses. when I could get a 1.25 burrito or 99 cent whopper some nights, it is cheaper.
it shouldn't be child abuse if the child eats it willingly, or it shouldn't be(in my perspective).
We don't know what's in the food; in this day and time most food are no good; if it's organic parents would need lots of money and skills. We don't know what the parents had to endure growing up, and may very well be worse off because of the pass. Just maybe the problem is not food, but something deeper. God bless, and have mercy on the families today. We should do our best no one could ask for more if they do they should step up to the plate.
It is not abuse so much as it is unintentional neglect. If the parents are over weight, they'll not notice how big their child gets until it is too late.Especially if the weight gain is gradual. As far as the circle goes,it can never be broken if the parents don't see they have a problem,or refuse to face it.
It should be! Is also blatantly cruel.
Also a shame the circle cannot be broken, while the children are young and trust their parents.
Quite selfish of the parents, I think. We all learn differently, how to become better people (once we leave the nest). The road to good health will be longer for some, because the basic lesson is overlooked. "RESPECT YOURSELF!"
I believe the way to break the cycle, is to teach the children to believe in themselves, and all the benefits of a healthier lifestyle. Stress management and emotional stability.
It is a parents responsibility to feed their children a HEALTHY & BALANCED diet. They should not be let to go hungry but they should not eat junk constantly so that it makes them fat or have so much sugar that their teeth rot out before they are 5 years old. Unfortunately I do not think that it is child abuse according to the guidelines as defined by DHS.
Amount is not matter they cant eat more already but be careful what they eat.
Yes-if the parents were alcoholics and smoked cigarettes and allowed their children to drink/smoke aswell they would be charged with child abuse, so why are they allowed to pump their kids full of fat just because they want to eat rubbish and cant be bothered cooking a decent meal? Obesity related heart-disease is one of the biggest killers in the west right now, alongside smoking related cancer and probably even more so than alcohol related liver failure/conditions. Yet it is not a crime to have horribly overweight kids, 8, 9, 10 year olds who weigh more than a grown man!!
It isn't showing love by over feeding them, do parents of fat children feel proud of their parenting skills when their child can't even walk up the stairs without breaking a sweat? Or when their child has a stroke or heart attack at 30 and dies because of the junk they fed them when they were kids?
Simple things like giving kids an apple instead of a chocolate bar, and fruit juice instead of coke could at least be a start to tackling the problem, it's not difficult as your just swopping one for another! Save trips to fast food outlets for a treat-when I was younger we only got to McDonalds if it was our birthday or a special day out for us, not as our daily source of food intake! Some parents are just too damn lazy (maybe its because they are too damn fat!) to cook their kids a decent meal, even just once a week! Just because the parents want to eat rubbish does not give them the right to inflict it upon their kids (as I noted with the smoking/alcohol example).
There should become a point that unless they are willing to tackle the problem immediately and address the poor diet they give their kids with some changes and healthy introductions, these parents should receive exactly the same treatment as those parents who are found to be abusing their children through allowing them to consume alcohol/cigarettes/drugs. They are all forms of abuse in my eyes.
All the best.
