A 62 year-old woman in England is to give birth, through IVF and been hugely criticised.?

The lady,62, is a qualified and well-off psychiatrist, who has paid for the treatment privately and is now happily into her second marriage, with a husband of a similar age.
She has 2 children from her previous marriage, is obviously intelligent and thought through the implications of such a late birth.
Her specialist, in Italy, because in UK they will not carry out IVF, where the woman is over 45, says she is 100 per cent fit, physically and mentally to give birth.
Critics say she is being selfish because of her age.
What is wrong with this? Aren't we all selfish at some point.
At least she isn't claiming benefits and has already provided for her previous children - and future child.
Discuss please!

Answers:
The point is. the lady is the one making choices about her own body. The point is. the child is PLANNED and WANTED and LOVED. The point is. the child WILL BE LOVED! Lastly. the lady is ABLE TO PROVIDE (fiscally, emotionally, .) for her child. This kid has more going for him/her RIGHT NOW than most kids!
To hell with the critics. If she wants to give birth, let her give birth. Just so long as she can support the child that's coming.
Since she has figured out how to deal with all the ramifications of such a late pregnancy, it's her own business.
I do think it's selfish. She will be in her 80's when the
child is in high school. And the burden of her care will
fall on the child. Just my opinion.
go old lady .
I agree it's her life women are living well into there 90's these days so she could obviously be around for many more years to raise a smart, healthy child which is more than a lot of women are doing today. Why does the government think they can make these kind of decisions for individuals?
i support her.. if she has thought over it carefully, and decided she is capable.. why should anyone stop her ?
Maybe she has taken care of all the finacial burdens herslef but surely she must realise that she is storing up a pile of emotional problems for the child.
When the child goes to nursey school at 3 or 4 years of age his/her mummy will be 65ish. Not really able to join in the mums race at school sports. When the child goes to secondary/high school at 12 mummy will be 74 - hardly able to enjoy shopping for school things.
By age 18 (school dance/prom) mummy 80 years old - if alive.
Wedding at 25 years - mummy dead & gone probably.
The child will feel different all through its life & with older parents will have to help out more around the home or with health care for ageing parents.
Is Alzheimers hits a parent will the child be able to cope? It is difficult at any age but especially for a youger person.
These parents should have been made to realise that God made womens child-bearing years end at 45ish for a reason.
Poor Child !
Imagine her down the Post Office getting Child Benefit and her Pension at the same time! I think she is bloody selfish. Why does she want another child at her age? She already has children! What about the implications for the child? When he/she is in his/her teens she'll be in her late 70s! Her grandchildren will be the same generation as their aunt/uncle. Although i do think that men who father kids in old age don't get the same criticism. They shouldn't have kids either!
She is actually 63 not 62 as you say.

Whilst she has the right to have as many children as she likes, is it really fair on the children themselves? When this baby is 7 it's mother will be 69/70 yrs old whilst the father who is now 61 will be 68/69. With the best will in the world these parents will never be able to run around and play with their offspring as would much younger parents. Morbid as it is, they could even be dead, how fair is that on the children. Think of the ribbing that would be meted out by the child's peers...children can be very very cruel.

It wouldn't do for me, but it's her life to lead as she sees fit.
