Why do we have to hide it when we're feeling down and depressed?
Answers:
Very good question and observation. I think it's b/c we live in society that emphasizes being successful and there shouldn't be any reason for being sad. There are so many distractions that you don't know if you're coming or going! There's no reason, if not time, to be depressed!
It is no measure of health to be well adjusted to a profoundly sick society. -Kristnamurti
Being down once in a while or even being severely depressed just goes to show that you are human. I don't know how old you are, but my friends and I just tell each other we are down or depressed b/c we've all felt that way at some point or another. Don't be afraid to express yourself w/ someone that cares. Not all will understand, but it will take a while for some to get the fact that life has many ups and downs.
OUR SELVES. ! !
i know what you mean. unfortunately i'd have to have pretend conversations in my head just to let it out, sounds crazy but not in an asylum yet.
It involves your own self,
We won't revealed our most personal problems to other people
You need that time to think and do something good about it
Nobody likes a miserable git.
I have depression I don't care anymore i don't hide it anymore I used to! To top it off i have 3 children under 5 so if anybody who is going to be labelled will be my children
Solution: change topic
I dislike getting attention to myself at such times and so avoid speaking of it on my own. But I also haven't had a hush-hush situation either, probably because I would mention such a topic only to my closest friends (it's none of the rest's business).
What I like at such moment (if it's not solitude) is some good cheer, and my mentioning I feel low will not help create / maintain that - because everybody will start commiserating and other topics, which I may be interested, will be overlooked.
Because people are superficial, and they already have their own problems and don`t always care for yours.
What do you think, when people ask: "How are you today" ? Do you really think they care ? Some will care about you, most people don`t.
some people feel uncomfortable talkin' bout depressin' situations, or they think that they wont be of any help, so maybe they'd prefer, not to talk about the situations, so that's why people hide it, to keep from disscussion.
My family and close friends certainly don't hide it!
However, when talking to other people, they are not, generally, interested in ones' problems (They have enough of their own!)
Some people get very uncomfortable especially us English with this subject. You have to pick the right time to talk about it and the right person(s). Its no good bringing it up if everyone is having a good laugh or if your drunk, as drunk miserable people are very annoying. However, its very important to talk so don't be put off just find someone who is understanding and work on being happy.
You don't have to hide it. I guess depressed people are afraid of being annoying and they try to hide those feelings, until one day. they explode, which is even worse.
because most people dont know what to say and feel awkward alot of people also see it as a weakness and they dont wanna be around it because it gets them down.
You don't have to hide anything - I don't, I let anyone and everyone know just so I don't get constant questions "whats wrong?" all the time!
We have an inbuilt assumption that to live is to be happy. We feel different and maybe even guilty about depression. Nobody likes to be thought of as different. Perhaps this assumption is a lie ?
Everyone would fuss over you, and it'd make them feel awkward being around you. I think it's probably a good thing that people shush it u p because it helps them to take their mind off it and get happier, those who tel everyone and just sit there thinking about how depressed they are won't get any better.
Not all people do that..i think you don't have true friends
cause people don¸t want to be around depressing people..It kind of affects other peoples mood as well when somebody depressed is around you.I prefer to stay at home and recover.
Because society frowns on people who shows depression as a sign or weakness.
Personally, I hide it only if i see someone who feels happy, because i dont want to ruin his feelings..so i pretend to be happy too.But when i'm inside my houde with my parents, i dont care what they think if i look sad.Everybody has the right to feel sad.!
