Why do married people pay less income tax than single ones?

when they are likey using more services, eg, medical, education, etc?

Answers:
That only happens in the US, not over here in England.
its called a TAX BREAK !!
Because two people living together use up less resources than two people living separately.
Because it is traditionally considered that a couple share everything, they are considered as one rather than 2. There are also disadvantages of being part of a couple as opposed to single. And, I wouldn't agree that one couple use more than 2 single people. It does happen in England as well. Although, it is probably a lot easier to deal with that sort of thing in America! We're still waiting, after a year, for my partner to get his tax code sorted so he is not paying a single mans tax. And, in England, I don;t know about elsewhere, men can claim married man's tax if he is co-haboting and not married but the government don't like to tell you that. I don't know if it works that way for women.
Believe it or not it's beneficial for a country to have young people, who else we pay our pensions?
Governments need to encourage families and hopefully birth for the countries future, either that or increased immigration. Hence tax breaks.
Because there are two of them living in a single house so they use less facilities. Also, because politicians have traditionally favoured marriage over cohabitation.
In the UK it doesn't happen any more. We used to have it too, it's a way of promoting marriage, so is really only prevalent where religion gets involved with politics.
we used to over here but they scrapped it in the uk years ago there no married tax allowence any more along with all the other help they whip away from ya over here
We don't! I've just done my husband's tax return and unles we are over about 70 we have to pay the same as a single person - each.
because the council knows that married women die quicker because of the stress MEN give them.so they try to make life a bit more bearable.
MENingitis
MENstrual stress
MENtal disease
MENopause!.
the list never ends!
They need the money for tranquilisers!

Have fun,

Roy.
Makes you want to get married, eh?
it doesn't happen any more I work full time and get taxed as a single person. , and have been married for ages.
In the UK married people pay the same tax as singles. Also, retired people pay tax on their pensions. I'm interested to know why married people are likely to use more services - how did you work that one out?
beacause he has to pay the tax to two Govt. bodies.
because married people are building home while single ones are going around wrecking it.
