I remeber a few years ago a friend of mine went to indonesia to 'spread the word of god' they converted one boy and his father killed him, the other convert, a woman with 2 kids had people burning her house (last i heard she was doing okay) then you have the middle east, another friend told of walking through egypt, and having people hiss at her, and finally australia. (my country) In cronulla the riots that were happening, in teh newspaper there was a picture of a man wearing a shirt that said 'mohummed is a camel raping ******' there were thousands of people there all to persecute middle easteren/muslims. Germany and the holocaust, America the KKK (its not just blacks they dont like), every country has its radicals, as every country has its good, unfortunately its the radicals that make the news
Look at Marx's ideology on religion were he argues religion is like opium to the masses . In other words it keeps people in their place due to the fear of damnation . Also religion is like a social glue and keeps community's together ,no one would leave as such due to being outcast and fear of the unknown . Were there are communities which are based on faith it is argued there is more conflict /debate . In my opinion in Britain Muslim faith is seen to be discriminated against and in most of the media headlines .

I FEEL THAT" ANY RELIGION" THAT IMPOSES ITS BELIEFS UPON SOMEONE WITH A "JOIN OR DIE" PHILOSOPHY IS WRONG. RIGHT NOW THE MUSLIM RELIGION IS TAKING FRONT STAGE. MAINLY BECAUSE OF 911, MUSLIM RADICALS, PROBLEMS IN IRAN, PAKISTAN, AND OTHER MIDDLE EASTERN NATIONS. PLUS THE FOCUS ON THAT REGION DUE TO THE WAR.
