Why is God referred to as "He"?

Answers:
"He" was viewed as a father figure. He punished and was to be feared.

Adam (a man) was made in his image.

It also was primarily men that did the writing.
because we all know he's not a chick
Only 2 possible reasons.. Either a "Y" chromosome, or a giant penis.
I know!

blatently an it..
Because boys wrote the books.
Because the people who decided to perpetuate the myth that such a being exists were men.
A woman wouldn't make such a mess would she?
She didnt want to brag about being female, but men just assumed lol

it would be kinda creepy to call god an "it"..lol, it sounds cold and impersonal, when most christians believed he is a nice, comforting god.
1) Known as the "generic he", generic masculine pronouns are the standard method used in the English language when addressing an "indefinite" or "undefined" individual. Masculine pronouns, such as "he / him / his" are utilized to address both male and female when the gender is unknown. The "generic he" has been the accepted method literally, since the beginning of the English language.

2) because God was referred to as "father".
Cause God is a male.Duh.
there is no reason to question if GOD is a he or not, there have never ever been any reason to considder that GOD is a she or any other form. The book has always been written as HE. I'm not against the idea just saying there should be no doubt in anybody's mind.
Because that was how He chose to reveal Himself to us through His word, the Bible. WE can trust God to choose the appropriate language which with to speak of Himself for the simple reason that He is QUITE smart.
man was made in God's image
because a man is more powerful than a woman in a mans world. personally i dont think its either or anything thats why nobody knows the meaning of life and i dont beleive in any god either it be a man a woman or a lie to make us be good as kids.
Because the bible hasn't been updated to the world of political correct madness like the rest of the world has! Watch this space!
Because that's the way HE wants it.
Actually. the only reference God ever made to Himself in the bible, was when he said:

"Say, 'I am' sent you."

Think about it. not He, or She. nor it. but, 'I am'. and for me this has always meant that God is not a person at all. but a 'force of love' that exists inside every living thing and everything that is. as well as everywhere around us. invisible, until He chooses to reveal Himself. yet touchable, and approachable, when we ask him in. He's like the air we breathe. all enveloping.

And He can (and did) come in human form, if He chooses, as He did in the shape of Jesus.

I personally do not believe that God has a gender at all. though He surely does, have an 'agenda'. which is to save our souls and take us home to Him, one day;-)
It says in the Bible that God made Adam in his own image, not too hard to work that one out is it?
Because man was created first.
Because of our society. When I was in grammar school, I was taught in Reading that "he" meant anyone. If you go to some other cultures, even our Native American tribes, many Dieties are referred to as "She".Mother Earth, for instance.
Because the first man (Adam) was made in his likeness, and also in those days man was the leader, the bredwinner and the head of the house. Women were second class citizens and used as breeders and in the house.
Well - firstly at the time of writing society was very patriarchal and no-one would have accepted God as "she", secondly "he" and "she" are only liguistic forms (in this case the English language) to refer to a third person and as such only posess meanings attached to them culturally (e.g. "oofrgd" - has no meaning in itself only what we attach to it - rearrange the letters and we may understand "for god") and thirdly if you believe the Christian account then Mary is the mother of christ and who is his dad?
All religions were made so that humanity would have something to have faith in, when ones lost faith in oneself. When one is in distress, he/her will turn to his/her God for gaudiness, unfortunately, we also made up Religions so we could have an explanation for our existence, instead of cold hard scientific fact.
From a Chistian perspective: In the New Testament Jesus often refers to the Lord as "the Father"
Is it because everyone says God created man in his image and if he was a woman, the first person created would be a female? I have no idea.I'm not even Christian in the first place..
Because the men who made up the bible didn't like women very much.
I don't know who started this. God never said whether "he " was a man or a woman. Jesus said God was our Father. How could he know? A child doesn't know who it's father is, the momma has to tell him.
Because He revelaed Himself as He; and no he did not create man first! In Genesis it says God says 'Let us create man in our own image' and MALE & FEMALE He created them and He called the new creation Adam.

Later on, when Adam was bored stiff on his own and his male side dominated the female side God split Adam into two to make Adam and Eve.

In the Bible the implication is that God is spirit; the question then becomes does it matter what sex you are if you are a spirit? No, don't think so.

Question then becomes, does it matter if we follow tradition (and the Bible which is the Word of God) and believe God is male? No, don't think so because political correctness should not apply to everything.

I love being female and I wouldn't have it any other way. Are my roles different from my husbands? Yes. Does that make me less than equal to him? No, it makes me different; and lets face it being different makes the world much more fun. I am very happy being a prototype of me!
Because if he was a she then people would question how his son is Jesus with Mary innit?, and how jesus was all like My Father and all that, plus in the early centuries women were considered lesser beings so people wouldnt have respected the bible so much if it was written that God was female, and with all the closenes to Moses and Elijah and Noah people would start to think that God was a ho.plus he made man first so that proves it so there!
