Why do social workers, social care workers and youth workers need to be aware of social policy since 1945.?

I just finished studying all that - history of the welfare state etc. I think it is important to know how the current policies of britain have come to be, and how they have shaped us. 1945 was when the NHS was founded, and the governments concept of looking after it people from the cradle to the grave.
It is also important to know this, as its effects are still shown today.
The post-war society was far different than the pre-war society.

i am a youth worker and have been for 18-20 months and never had to know this all i need to be awaer of is child protection act etc why not look it up on google? wish u luck
