What do they mean by saying that perception and memory are constructive processes?

??

Answers:
This is not psychologist's jargon, as proported by some.
Trying to keep it simple:
Our memories may not be exact, but a memory, say of an experience from the distant past may be a reconstruction, the person reinvents it to some extent.
Perception is coloured by experience. If scared by a bunny rabbit, if confronted by several or even one, a harmless bunny may be percieved as harmful or completely dangerous.
So we humans are constantly comparing memories and currently experienced or wittnessed things against the things we have experienced. It may have been the bunny only tickled you with its ears, but you see it like others may fear a lion, though for different reasons. Fear of a lion is rational, fear of the bunny isn't.
I hope this helps at least a little.
Memories need to be reconstructed to remember but perception?
That's just psychologists' jargon. A constructive process is a term used to describe things like perception and memory.
Both when percieving and remembering you sort of build or construct an image/notion in your head, that's why I think they are called so.
it means that they develop as we grow and mature, we are not born with our full ability in these areas
I'm not sure.!

In fact, I have to admit that I have never in my 50+ years heard "them" or anyone say that phrase! How curious!

Sash.
You must have also heard the saying 'for something to have a action, it has to have an equal + opposite reaction'.
Meaning - for something to work it has to have a range both sides of it otherwise it won't do anything.. Maximum- minimum, plus or minus, positive- negative. Etc
Wit out memory perception is not possible. It is just like software or primary data in a computer. When ever a new event is seen ,brain checks with memory and then it gets the perception.
There is nothing constructive about memory, It's black or white. You either remember or you don't.

Perception is abstract and can be any shade of any colour that you want it to be and therefore, can be either constructive or destructive depending on the way that you see it
