What could turn certain people into criminals?

or are some just born that way?

Answers:
I think that socialisation causes certain behaviours. For instance, if a person is socialised in a crime infested society where means for survival are met through stealing, murder and so on - then chances are that throughout their lives they may choose to use those same methods to obtain whatever they need to for survival for themselves, or their families.

I also believed that some psychological instabilities are genetic, such as depressive tendencies, schizophrenia and so on, these things cause people to act in crazy ways, when they themselves aren't even sure what they are doing, they are just acting based on what their mind is telling them to do. I believe it's all about psychological instability, if you were to speak to a man who finds pleasure in raping young girls, you would hear things like he is empowered by the experience, he feels happy when he does these things - and these aren't exactly normal behaviours..

Psychological problems can stem from many different aspects in a person's life as well, the criminal could have had an abusive childhood for instance, or come from any related domestic unstable home.

I believe that environment breeds behaviour as well, and that behaviour is learnt through socialisation - and this may be one aspect as to why criminals do what they do.
well.. supposedly everyone has within them the ability to commit a crime, they need to get enjoyment, require the financial gains, or out of anger pretty much.. and some people are born that way.. but not many, most develop it through societies upbringing of that particular person through stereotypes and poverty.
No ones born a criminal. They're just cold blooded assholes who made horrible decisions in life. I don't think anyone is born a criminal.People just have to CONTROL their temper.
Harsh family backgrounds. Society's realistic judgement. Environment. Most of them are not born that way.
Usually the environment may play a big factor, the person he hang out with will affect the future he hold.mainly due to peer pressure or juz plainly they are rebellious so they like to go against the authority. Pyschology and environment are potent factor that determine who and what he do next time.
Nature VS Nurture. Biological traits influenced or encouraged by outside stimuli can and will make a person act out.
I think a lot of it has to do with being fed up with their situation. Some are just born that way though. Maybe a little of both?
Some are just born that way..
For others it is greed, temper, jealousy, paranoia, mania etc. etc.
Hunger can make anyone a criminal. All of us walk a fine line, next to the dark side.
There are some people who are born with much more demanding temperaments. If the needs of the infant aren't properly met the child becomes detached, unable to bond with or show empathy for others. As the child grows they treat the world as a harsh stark place and start "looking out for #1." In sever cases, extreme negligence has been proven to create a sociopathic personality.

The nature vs. nurture debate is moot in this and most cases like it because it's more than likely a bit of both.
drugs and alcohol, become addicted to these and you would do anything for a fix
Property, Wealth or Woman
being poor and not haveing much money what do you think
Most of the very worst criminals were born into neglect and/or abuse. The lowest common denominator is being an unwanted infant. That is Not to say all unwanted infants become criminals, but rather that nearly all the worst killers started life as unwanted infants.
No body is born as a criminal. Most of this are caused by lack of job opportunity, most people go into it when they ve no source of income, and they need to make fast money, they feel they have no choice than to go into criminal act. Most of them is just the way they were brought up, no proper trainning, no proper good education, what do you expect of such people you see.
Please consider teh following

1. A desire to be Infamous rather than famous
2. They believe they are smarter than enforcement agencies [ Police, FBI etc ] and the Law
3. If there's a "need to feed" then they will steal and it is primal to take what you need to "survive and keep your loved ones alive"
4. Taking without paying [ cost - financial or moral ] leads to it being in their minds socially acceptable
5. They estimate a £1 Billion is stolen each year from Offices, Shops, Factories etc by staff world wide each year and not a word in the papers or on the news
stupid girls like you.

Being raised without much attention and love from parents or elders.
Parents who are complaining about not having this and wanting that..
Parents who do not set limits, and enforce them! Children will learn early that there are limits in life.
Greed. Lack of morals and scruples. Being easily led.
influence of friends or peers. some caused by family or stress. mostly peer pressure.
Greed for more than they can attain legally and jealousy of what others have.
yes, the wrong circumstances can produce criminals.
you need good stong role modles because you can be changed by your environment for the worse
I used to think it was the way they were brought up, but now that i am older and wiser (hee hee), i think that some just like the thrill, others for money ie drugs, and others 'cos they are who they are
Jealousy or seeing his girlfriend wit someone else r even his boyfriend or being lied or maybe some mental illness..
A split second decision to carry out an impulse formulated from your brain. Besides that, watch the movies. there are quite enough reasons why people commit crimes detailed at length there.
i believe that people aren't born that way. ah the nature/nurture debte.

it's all about life experiences.

the petty crimes a usually due to boredom, or the desire to "beat the system", or perhaps financial problems.
curiosity is also a cause of petty crimes. for example, the hard working student wants to find out what it's like to steal a chocolate bar. the buzz gives them some feeling of accomplishment.

people like breaking the rules which are inforced on them.

i believe that rapists only exist because men are able to find porn and nude pictures in their magazines and the internet. men are getting bored with seeing women naked. (of course i m generalising. not all men are.) but those who do get bored seek new thrills, leading onto more and more adventurous sex. then they evolve, or rather, devolve, into animals who find rape enthralling.

criminals are those who cannot find their kicks in legal activities. the fact that the crimes are bad, make them feel even better. serial killers enjoy the chase.

it's sick, of course.
There are many things which can cause someone to commit crime - some do it through nessecity (e.g. the need to fund a drug habit) others commit crimes for the thrill while others still do it as a means of making money. Some people ofcourse commit crimes in a moment of anger (such as 'crimes of passion'.) Some believe that we are all capable of commiting crimes, but the vast majority of people do not, as they have no need to and they would also stand to lose all that is important to them if they were to do so. Some early theorists even believed that it was possible to determine who was likely to commit crimes due to physical appearance (such as Rousseau). See also Cesare Beccaria and Jeremy Bentham.
Most are not born that way. However, it has been said that criminal genes can be passed on from generation to generation. Although this doesn't explain why people from non-criminal families commit crime and vice versa. There are many reasons why people turn to crime. It can be mixture of social aspects - e.g. what they may learn from the people who raised them, or from the people they are friends with. Economic aspects - e.g. living in a poor area. Its mostly to do with rational and reasoned decisions and that some people able to make decisions against crime while others do not.

This of course does not apply to those who commit crimes because they have mental illnesses.
Drug addiction.
