I do not know who said it. However, my Mum said this of my brother and I:
"I want you boys to mind me out of love and respect. Failing that, stark raving fear will do."
I can say, though, the way she battled for animal and human rights, and the way I saw her take chunks out of people, she was fierce enough to make my brother and I tremble at getting her ar*sed at us.
She was actually a sweetheart, and our greatest champion-strong, loving, soft and tough all at once. Super nanny could have taken lessons from her!
I owe all my successes to her. I say "was" because she died, but she still lives in memory.
To answer your question: Motivation by fear does save money, at least it did my Mum!
