Answers:
I do not believe in the death penalty. I actually did a speech for my public speaking course in college over this topic. It was a persuasive speech. Here's some suggestions on some points to consider.

The death penalty has been proven falliable. There have been approximately 1 out of 8 death row inmates that are actually INNOCENT. (great play on this called "The Exonnerated")

The death penalty is NOT cost effective. People only THINK it's cheaper and more efficient to execute someone than to give them life in prison. The cost associated with appeals, lawyers, and housing a death row inmate, (not including the actual cost of putting them to death) nearly TRIPLES the cost of housing a prisoner for life.

To state a famous quote from Ghandi, "An eye for an eye makes the whole world go blind". Taking a life for the loss of another is not justice. Who's getting justice? Certainly not the victim, and it's also not fair to punish the families of the accused to suffer along with the accused, but they have to suffer the loss of their child or family member just like the families of the person who was killed. Neither of these groups of people committed a crime, so why should they be forced to suffer? Even death row inmates have families and people who value their lives.
it makes me die.
eye for an eye.
I highly recommend it.tickles
I am against the Death Penalty in all instances. I do not believe that it is mankind's right to take the life of another person. To do so is murder, and murder is wrong.
I think our justice system is more fair than ever and forensics are really advanced, so, if it is proven that a person is guilty for the hideous crime they are charged for, they should die.
NO
It is irreversable
It is not the answer to repay a death with a death
It is not a deterrant
It has social consequences
It's good unless it is for me then I would be against it.
i think its wrong, it doesn't serve a purpose. the bible states thou shalt not kill and although they killed some1 doesnt mean we have the right to kill them.
Some crimes are so heinous by their very nature that the death penaly is warrented; others not as much (if a woman kills her abusive husband, it's not "bad" as a serial killer).

We need a better case-by-case approach to the death penalty
"An Eye for An Eye"
"If your gonna do the crime, you gotta pay the time"
Rape
Child Molesters/Abusers
Wife abusers
Women beaters
Crimes against Seniors
Need I say MORE!!!
I believe the death sentence is wrong. For one, God is the ulimate judge not our peers. Secondly, so many people have been wrongly convicted. Once you've killed them you can't bring them back if they were convicted of a crime they did not commit.
yes
1 rehabilitating kiddy fiddlers never works
2 life for a life is the only fair way
3 it would save the tax payers millions prisons cost money to run
4 what else u gonna do with the likes of Ian Huntley and Myra hindley life in prison being protected hardly seems fair who protected the children?
death penalty should never have been abolished..if u take someones life why should u be given all these "human rights".u should be killed end of
I think it should be practiced everywhere.

Why? Because..

1. Prisons are overcrowded.
2. Some people really deserve it.
3. We don't need anymore child molesters or rapists.
4. Maybe the crime rate would lower if they set an example with the death penalty.
I think we need to use it more. bring back public hangnings in town squares. but everyone is worried about the prisoners rights. well what about the rights of the person he/she killed? I guess thats not that important
eye for an eye.
i think that if someone is found guilty of murder, rape or pedophillia then they should be killed as they have taken the life away from a person

and before anyone starts most people who have been abused as children or raped dont tend to find it easy in social situations because of what happened to them. so they never have the life they really want.
I believe in death penalty for certain crimes:
parents that kill their one children should be put to death
Child Molesters should be put to death
Serial Killers should be put to death
Mass murderers should be put to death
Anyone that kills the elderly or children should be put to death

If we don't have death penalty the prisons would become overcrowded and would cost a fortune to build and maintain them.
No

1.The person being executed may be innocent of the crime thus justice is not served.
2.As people said before me, "An Eye for an Eye" but I will say this as my quote from Ghandi,"An for an eye and we will all be blind."
3.People get executed just for sneaking in illegal drugs.
4.The punishment is quick as swift in some cases.
I support the death penalty in some cases because
1- some people's crimes are so heinous that they do not deserve jail time alone
2- some people are past any form of 'rehabilitation'
3- the cost of keeping a person in jail for life is tremendous
4- certain people should not be allowed in any society, even that of a jail as they are a threat to other people
In support of the Death Sentence

1. It does act as a deterrent - this can be shown by the plea bargains that people make to avoid it.

2. It provides some piece to the victims family

3. It is cheaper than feeding them for life

4. It insures 100% that they will never do it again.

Let me know if you need four reasons against I am conflicted also.
I don't think anyone should EVER have the right to decide that another persons life should be taken (it makes them as bad as the person being sentenced!).
The punishment should fit the crime, eg death sentence if you have killed. But where do we draw the line, eg euthenasia etc.

Also what if someone was proved guilty beyond reasonable doubt and was given death sentence, but afterwards someone else confessed.
Bring it back for rapists, murders, paedophiles, they don't deserve to live, and as the system lets serious offenders out to roam among us yet again, and they just re offend !!
Also it would save money, and make more room in jails for other type criminals.
1.We don't have the right in taking a person's life..because we have all sinned
2.Religious reasons.Christianity doesn't believe in taking a life because God gave as life and only he can take it back!
3.I personally believe that every person deserves as many chances as they need in order to become a better person!
4.People with authority will sentence into death penalty anyone that they won't!
5.People that killed someone or raped someone will hurt more if they stay locked in a cell.and live with there guilt
If it wasnt based on our broken legal system I'd be all for it. But the fact that innocent men could face the death sentence makes me think against it.
The death sentence was instigated by God for murder (Genesis 9 5-6). The reason given is that man is made in God's image - so by killing a person you are killing someone very special to God.

There are good societal reasons for the death penalty - socirty relies on everyone obeying the rules. If someone refuses to obey the rules and causes severe disruption to the functioning of society then they have to be removed from society for the benfit of everyone else. Execution is the obvious way to do this. It is not about judging them (God will judge them), it is about the greater good, and obeying God's command.
Following the Maker's instructions is always best.
I'm going to answer your question with a religious question!

It is sin to kill even if it is revenge, protection, just because, or mistake, so do the people who don't pray for forgiveness and kill the bad guy don't they go to hell?

so I guess I'm saying it is not good thing they should just lock em either in a room by them self and see how crazy they go or all together with the biggest, grossest, gayest horny dude they could find because most bad guys hate to drop the soap!!

I mean no offense to any gay people reading this!!
I do agree with the death sentence for certain crimes

1. murder
2. drug dealing ( a slow form of murder)
3. child molestation ( the scum of the earth and uncurable)
4. terrorists (as above)

My reasons for this are- the planet is overpopulated with warped humans and the only way to eliminate scumbags is to order the death sentence, the quicker the better, none of this 'on death row for fifteen years' malarky.

People DO make mistakes and I would forgive a first mistake, depending upon the crime. but if you have some badass dick head who would stab you as soon as look at you then the death sentence is preferable.

I have shopped a drug dealing cousin to the police and had second hand experience of paedophilia, both disgusting crimes, kill them all!!
I do not support it. I do believe in life sentence without the possibility of parole. If the person is guilty, he or she would the rest of his/her life to think about what they have done, remember it and be without any freedom. That is worse than a lethal injection and in minutes everything is done for the criminal. The family of the victims always has the rest of their lives to suffer and think of what had happened.
If the alleged criminal is innocent, with a life sentence would have the opportunity to appeal and -if lucky- to prove his/her innocence.
The death penalty has not proven a deterent to future crimes.

We do not rape rapists, molest child moslesters, steal from thieves nor beat those guilty of battery - why do we murder murderers?

It DOES NOT afford peace to most family members of victims - nothing does

It does not return the deceased

It changes nothing

It costs more to execute and house a deathrow inmate (due to appeals and such) than to carry out a life sentance

Sentences are being overturned due to faulty evidenece - what about those who are already dead?

Though DNA is thought to be irrifutable there is now a condition whereby it is known that women (and possibly men) can have one type of DNA present in their blood system and another in their reproductive system. This is a result of an absorbed twin during gestation. It has come to light during custody cases and could be a factor in many criminal criminal cases. It presents another unknown.
