Can anyone explain what is meant by simple intervention, in the drug treatment field?
also can anyone tell me the meaning of the term screening. I'm trying to get an all round understanding, as i hope to be helping addicts & alcoholics
Answers:
Not sure about 'simple intervention' - it could mean any one of a number of things depending on the nature of the addiction - anything from supplementing an alcohol dependent persons diet with a vitamin pill to prevent malnutrition as a result of their drinking to providing a methadone substitute for a heroin user.
I'd advise making an appointment with a local drug treatment unit (non govermental agencies may be a good place to start) and having a chat with a treatment specialist armed with a list of questions. Alternatively, check out your local library for books on drug and addiction subjects or just surf the web. There are always courses on offer to help build knowledge.
Screening usually means screening for the presence of drugs in the body, for example urine tests.
The drug screening would be when they take a blood sample to see what drugs are present in the system. Why don't you get in contact with some volunteer drug groups and see if they will give you some info
