Is diesel thinned down nowadays?
diesel is not as heavy as it use to be and doesn't last as long, who agrees? all this city diesel enviromentally friendly rubbish is just another way of getting away with thinning it down and making more profits - nobody come back and say that heavy diesel is bad for the engine, also rubbish - just flush your engine out properly and it will last indefinately, the car with fall apart first!
Answers:
Well this statement is wrong for a number of reasons.
1) The diesel is indeed lighter, it's not as dense as it used to be. Most diesel you now buy at the pumps is HSD2 which is low sulphur diesel fuel oil. A lot of emission causing additives have been removed. The main of which is sulphur. The sulphur content must now not be higher than 0.02 - 0.05% so Yes the very envoirnment friendly type.
2) Your car seems to be using more for one simple reason.because your engine has 500,000 Miles on it.
3) The new clean burning Diesel will burn more efficiently in a relatively new engine that has been designed to use it. Say from 99 onwards. So for best results try a newish car.
4) As for flushing your engine out, these newer cars only have their oil changed approximatly every 10,000 or 12,000 Miles.Yes amazing. Where as yours probably needs changing every 4,000 or 5,000. .
Next time you're thinking of buying a car buy yourself a nice secondhand Or New golf TDI, which will get you approx 50Mpg if driven sensibly..thats quite an achievement also.and we are improving all the time.
You're right about one thing.Cars are lasting longer & getting better.
Hahaha..Got your message..ok..i agree that flushing out an engine with a drop of petrol every couple of years is good for it..Sure..But will that really stop wear & tear.i dont think so. Having a diesel engine engineer is always handy though.
Another point on the engine oil is that these new syntethic Oils protect your engine for longer hence longer between Oil changes.same goes for the Fuels, they are cleaner with not so many impurities & hence less corroision & wear & tear..So your husband will see diesel engines lasting even longer in the future..
Anyway very nice talking to you and recieving your comments.
By the way..The prices in UK do suck.I just live last 3 years in Dubai, UAE & you can fill a tank of petrol or diesel there for about equivilivent of £15 here.
Anyway enjoy your evening.
: ) Bye.
They had to reformulate diesel a few month's ago.Had to take lots of sulfurs out of it..So yes,,I would say it's thinner than before
