Why am i fascinated by old churches and graveyards?
i love to look at old gravestones. someone told me this is weird. does anyone else have this interest? i think it's just historical interest
Answers:
Churches and graveyards are usually quiet, peaceful places, so I can see why you'd go there. Finding relaxation isn't easy in today's hectic world. There is something about those places that draws you to them and there are some interesting stories to be gleaned from reading headstones and plaques in churches. It's not weird at all.
umm may be
Maybe it is because of the historical value. I don't think that it is weird at all.
i dunno, i have a fascination with crime and forensics, each to their own
it could be a historical interest, or it could be the fact that you like the tranquility of a place while fasinated by what it means.you know? the graveyard like you said is full of history.so many storys to be told but no one to tell them anymore. thats kind of what fasinates me.
Yeah when I read this I thought "Maybe it's the history." That's why I like them.
I love them also. I think they are awesome. So peaceful. I loved to sit in them and read a book, or take a long walk to find the oldest grave. I would love to buy an old church and convert it into a house. That would be cool too.
maybe u too are ancient like them
try watching a mummy
sic..
i don't have this sort of fun but the wife dose and its strange how you feel when reading the head stones and try to think of the life they had . if you enjoy carry on its not weird at all that's how to find thinks out they all ways said the dead can talk
I find them fascinating too, it makes me think about the people in them and i often wonder how they died. Sometimes i get sad when i see that the residents were only young. It makes me think about my life and how vulnerable we all are. It kind of puts a lot of things into perspective. I don't think you're weird either, I would have to admit to it too wouldn't I.
no i dont think its wierd atall. its history and can be very interesting. i will look at old churches and graveyards if out and about and come across one. but also like someone here i have an interest in crimes too. we all find difference things interesting and fasinating - if we all liked the same thing it would be so boring! just ignore anyone who says its wierd, its no different to walking around a museum really!
That depends on what you're into. Are you interested in the people who are represented there, or the architecture of the headstones, or even something spiritual about it? For me it's the beauty of the cemetery itself as well as a curiosity of who the people were. And, you're right, there's also a strong sense of history there.
Perhaps you were buried in one in a past life..hee .hee
Billy Connolly loves looking around graveyards so next time someone tells you it is weird, point out your not the only one that does it.
So do I. For me it's the historical interest. I feel a connection to the past.
I avoid graveyards myself, but understand where you are coming from as far as the historical interest in it. You look at them and have a sense of wonder. You wonder what the person was like, how they lived, where they lived, what they looked like, and what they may have died from during that era.
It's not strange.
Enjoy it as a hobby!
vcause u are darcula.a darcual can happy by seeing all these.
I love doing the same.maybe I am wierd lol. There are many reasons why I enjoy it. They are usually quiet comtemplative places where I like to get some relaxing stress free time. There is the historical thing of old gravestones, reading about the lives of the people buried there, the social history of the place. Lots of people go to look for their ancestors. I also like the plants and the overgrown natural feel in some of them, especially on a warm sunny day. Sorry. The sound of bumble bees buzzing, the wind rustling thru the trees and dandilion seeds floating thru the air is overwhelming me hehehhe
its perfectly logical and understandable. anybody who has a problem with other people looking at graves should ask themselves "would i like to go to the pyramids in egypt"
You are correct, there is nothing weird about your fascination.
In the UK churchyards are where they bury or used to bury
their parishioners. It is a very big contribution to Heritage and
Culture. Also the minister kept the wedding records and some date
a long way back and it is a good source to find out who married who and when the event took place. Even some old churches in ruins,
the cemetery is still intact with the gravestones readable. This is
one of Britain‘s Heritage visiting places that should be conserved
everlastingly. Nothing is weird or spooky so keep up your habit
and someday you may all the wiser for having done so.
nothing weird about. it's actually quite interesting. when i go to visit my mother's site, i look at all the amazing work that some people have had done to their head stones and the their surroundings. it's like art. many of the pieces are very old. it's like watching history unfold before you.
Because you're gothic (?)
Sometimes go for a walk in my village and pass an old cemetry, i sometimes check out the graves of old soldiers of the two great wars.
I do Genealogy and this is a very common way for people who trace their family roots to get that dates of Birth and Death, and also relatives. As stomes are often marked "wife of" "Son" "Daughter" etc.
Plus it is just another away of looking at history
I too like looking at old churches and graveyards-- not everyday, but if I'm near one on a day out, I might go and have a look. The church buildings are absolutely stunning and some of the architecture amazingly beautiful.
The different gravestones can be interesting, too. Not just the designs, but the age, and the information on the stones about the people laid to rest there. It is of historical interest. So don't worry-- I for one think you're normal! :-)
You are not paranoid.
