This is really tricky,it is such a delight when you meet a crowd of people who really talk about things that matter. For me I find that students at university generally still care about real questions and are still trying to find a better way to live in society.Coffee shops can be the place to meet the right folk. The other thing to do is to travel and meet others with different cultures ,often this leads to stimulating discussions and both sides learn from the interaction.
I am blessed to have a bf who is articulate and intelligent. He & I are capable of having many meaningful conversations.
Thats something you have to look for outside the internet. You cant just go up 2 ppl and say "wanna be my friend?". Same thing with this, you cant just say you wanna find someone and expect to do so. Go to church meat ppl, and then you can start discusing religion.
Honestly most don't. Conversation requires two way listening and talking. Most talk very well, very few listen. Listening takes patience to hear what others are saying. Most aren't patient enough to listen, and talkers almost never listen that's why they spend their entire life talking and never knowing anything cause they never listen. A communications professor at LSU told me that 90% of conversation is listening and digesting others information. Only 10% is actually talking. You can always tell people who miss 90% of the conversation cause they end up argueing or talking very loud for no good reason.
Best bet is to find someone of the opposite sex - they often listen more than talk, cause they are interested in you (maybe for sex, maybe for something else, but they listen) as a result you will have better conversations than from established friends and family. Mainly cause they feel they don't have to listen to you - and that is the root of a bad conversation.
