2 The inside of the bell and the outside of the bell
Four.
4!! Least its better than being two faced!
Two - an outside and an inside - Big Ben is the Bell and not the clock.
According to my husband who has been there and shot pictures of it, there are four sides with a clock face on each side so that the time can be seen from all directions. They are all set to the Greenwich mean time which is the time that the world bases it's time on.
I have tried to force myself not to correct people calling St Stephen's tower on the New Palace of Westminster, Big Ben, but I am glad many others here do not have that concience.
Answers that educate, well done all
The four faced clock tower is not "Big Ben".
Big Ben is two faced.
He has an inside and an outside.
Questioner also asked WHY
The reason Big ben has two sides
is that it is normal for a bell
to have an inside and and outside.
I think you cant make material so thin
than it has only one side.
