Would you agree? There are only to true emotions and all the rest branch out from these:fear and love.?

Think back on everything that you have ever hated or were angry at,doesn't it usually start with fear?First you feared the spider. Then you started to hate the spider.I don't know about the anger part for this example.

very good question and after a lot of thought i think your probably right anger and hate can come from ignorance but ignorance is not an emotion .at the same time anger and hate jealousy etc can come from love in a negative way ,also fear which turns the love to hate and anger even greed can be traced back to loving your self too much i could go on and on but i better not thanks for a thought provoking question
I don't fear the things I hate, but I do love it, so, I guess you'r right.
No, a lot of people hate out of ignorance too.
i disagree. there are too many emotions to collectively categorize them all into two basic groups.
Thats called the flight or fight reflex but our emotions are a little more complex than that.
Last thing I was angry at was my ex but I didnt fear her.haha
Love is something most of us do automatically. So I think you are right there. But fear is a learned response to most. I get angry with many things that I do not fear nor love. I hate things I don't fear. Very good question it makes one think.
have you watched donnie darko recently?
Fascinating question.

When I'm not at my day job, I do a little acting. My first acting teacher told us that, in his view at least, all emotions come from fear or love. He said we should use that premise as we develop our characters.

I've worked on that theory ever since.

As I've studied characters for plays I've been in, I've discovered that the line between fear and love is very thin. Sometimes it's difficult to tell which is which. In life. And in theater -- which is only life exposed and written large.

If you love someone, it's easy to fear for them.

If you fear someone, and overcome it, it's easy to love them.

From love -- compassion, understanding, empathy, trust, respect.

Yet compassion (if it's overwhelming), understanding (if it's complete), empathy (if it's perfect), trust (if you recognize motives), and respect (if you see the full potential) all can lead to fear.
I think you have come to something. I would say that there are false emotions - ie negative emotions - what you have called fear. This type of emotion is not natural but is caused by ignorance and delusion. If people stopped wasting so much energy on fear emotions (anger, jealousy, boredom etc) then they would be able to use emotional energy for living consciously and creatively - compassionately. Love! It has been said of fear that ultimately it boils down to one fear only - the fear of death.

Good question.
Chinese medicine theory says there are seven emotions: worry, anger, fear and fright, elation, sadness and grief.

Ps. i can't remember ever hating anything or anyone but have enough anger in me to make up for that. Even the things i have feared i have never really hated.
Fear that you will lose something you want, or get something you don't want is the root of feelings like anger.
you are missing frustration in your question.. anger doesn't come from fear, but from frustration. for example, you think that life should be easy. but it isn't -> frustrated -> angry
when ever reality doesn't agree with what you think it should be, then you are being frustrated, and the common emotional response to that is anger. to what ever degree depending on the importance you place on the particular situation.
Stop watching Donnie Darko.
