What does "There's no smoke without fire" mean?
Answers:
it simply means nothing happens without a reason.
or there's no effect if there's no cause.
Pre-sci definition for leading indicator.
there is usually a cause to something that happens.thus the saying there cant be smoke if there is no fire.
They say that to claim there's always some truth in a rumour, since they supposedly don't start for no reason.
Like when some guy is claimed to cheat on his wife, he's probably been seen with another woman, even though that might just be chatting while waiting on a bus.
In my opinion, this is not true, because gossip can take the weirdest forms without any need for true sources.
you can't have one without the other
It means that you can never have a fire without it smoking. or there's no Punch without Judy . Basically they mean you can't have one without the other.
Ok I am gonna try this.. Smoke is the product and evidence of fire. So I am using the saying means there is meaning behind everything. There is always reasoning and signals behind every issue. Hope that helped.
: There's no smoke without fire
If something has all the outward characteristics then it's likely that all the other attributes, when examined, will confirm the initial diagnosis.
In other words (and by the look of that first sentence you'll need other words), if you find it in the country, it's made of wood, has leaves on it and is growing in the ground then it's more likely that not you've got a tree on your hands. Further examination may confirm this initial impression but it's unlikely to be anything other than a tree.
A common characteristic of a fire is to burn and, in the process, produce heat, flames and smoke. However it's possible that a fire may not produce smoke but it's unlikely that the burning of combustible material will produce smoke but no fire.
I guess it means that everything happens for a reason?
it means no impact/result without cause.
Something should trigger a happening.
for example : if someone/something didn't move the book on the table, it wouldn't be on the floor.
That when you hear a rumour, usually there is a basis to it. When you see smoke, there will be fire.
It means that if an accusation is made it is usually because there is substance for the accusation. There must have been a cause for the accusation to have been made in the first place.eg. if there are rumours that a marriage is breaking down there must be something in the marriage that had caused the rumour to start.perhaps the wife was flirting with other men or the husband was seen with another woman.
Hello my fellow neanderthal, what is this "fire" you speak of?
