Where do Queen of the South play their home games and how did they get their name?
Answers:
Palmerston Park, Dumfries. The website doesn't give a lot of info on the name, but they were created at a committee meeting in 1919. They were bemoaning the fact that there had been no competitive football in the area since WWI started. They decided to create a new team from the old Dumfries team and from another team called Maxwell Town, and rename them Queen of the South. Other than that there's not a lot to go on.
They play at Palmerston Park in Dumfries and their name - well Dumfries is one of the most southerly cities in Scotland and the Queen is obvious.
Founded in 1919, "the doon hamers" play at Palmerston Park,
in Dumfries, probably so called because of their southerly location.
Queen of the South is a Biblical reference and I guess they nicked it from that!
