Depends what ure team is.like lot of strikers 4 3 3.. lot of midfielders 4 4 2 or lot of defenders 5 4 1 / 4 1 3 2
4-4-2 with 2 defensive midfielders, playing defensive mentality, mixed creativity, mixed passing, mixed tempo. Set tight marking and counter-attacking as "on". Set GK to distribute "defender collect" and to pass "short" to avoid wasting possession, and DMs to "stay back" for all set pieces. Organise corners and free kicks in detail, and leave 3 players upfield at defensive set pieces to limit the oppositions' attacking options.
Play two very quick strikers and strong, intelligent centre backs with high marking ability. All players need high work-rate, stamina, strength and teamwork.
This formation will win you a lot of games 1-0 and 2-0, but it does rely on you having strikers who can score on their own; Sergey Kisliy, Leonid Kovel, Robbie Keane, Andy Johnson and Antonio Di Salvo play well up front in this formation. Rooney tends to shoot from distance and miss the whole time, Drogba loses possession too easily. The opposition tend to get frustrated and do stupid things against this formation, the number of red and yellow cards it draws is amazing. This works best as an "away" tactic in European competition.

keep your back four tight not to much width and set mentality to attacking. this is good for 1 to 2 seasons as your attacking a league that dosent expect it but in your 3rd season you will need to change. i then opt for the formation i play in itay.
5-3-2. 3 solid centre backs and two fast wing backs running the length of the pitch then two solid centre mids and one out and out attacking mid behing the strikers and then your two upfront
then i once you have mastared the 2 formations id swap and change in the rest of the seasons 4-4-2 against minnow and 5-3-2 against the big boys
