He wanted out of Arsenal and is using that as an excuse. As previously said he was caught in the middle of an illegal appraoch by Chelsea. Prior to that he had stalled on a new contract. Afterwards he claimed Arsenal had left him out to dry and had mistreated him. Things soured and he wanted to leave.
I think though he just wanted out.
it's true he said £60,000, but think, is it really that bad when compared with other players? he said £60,000. that wasn't a ridiculous amount for a man who is often said to be the best left-back in the world. the problem is arsenal were so obstinate about their offer of £55,000 that they wouldn't budge. if i was cole i'd see this as a matter of principle. arsenal weren't willing to raise a measly sum to keep him.
anyway, he's already said his main motivation for leaving was to win things, and he'll do that at chelsea. he wouldn't have done that at arsenal. i believe him; i think he's an honest guy. he's what, 26? you think he should have stayed at arsenal just because it doesn't make him a 'glory-hunter'? so he could say, "look, at the end of the day, i didn't win much, BUT I STAYED DAMN LOYAL!" no, ashley cole's a winner, and the current arsenal team are losers. he got out at the right time. and i'm a man u fan. he claims that moral is low in the team and that the team aren't gelling. apparently two first teamers don't even speak to each other.

They betrayed him because they didn't take him as a young apprentice and make him into an international player who went on to play in a double winning side.er..wait..that is exactly what they did. He wanted to know why the Arsenal fans didn't sing his name after the last game at Highbury, having sat there and listened to them singing for Henry. It was probably because Henry showed some loyalty and respect for the fans. Why didn't Arsenal 'wine and dine' Cole, like they allegedly did Henry?
