Back To Grass?
i want to start a campaign to rid Scotland of red ash / gravel football pitches and replace them with natural grass. These ‘pitches’ are a disgrace and put our country to shame when compared to facilities for kids in other countries. We have sat back and watched Scotland fall far behind countries like Holland and Denmark in providing good parks for our kids to play football on. Expensive or private run astroturf pitches do not cater for everyone’s budget so these gravel parks are all that most kids have to use. Two questions have to be asked, why do we still have them? and how much would it cost to convert them to grass?. each local council should be doing more to help our national sport improve by giving the future of the game the best start, which is a good surface to play on.I’m sure you will agree this is a worthwhile campaign and I hope we can count on your support. So who is with me?

Maybe try a press campaign to end this nonsense.
It's Daily Record material so why not write a press release for them?
They would come up with a stupid pun on 'grass' but if you can suffer that, you might somewhere with this.
Try your MSP as well but just make as much noise as you can and shame some buggers into doing something.
unfortuneately if it logical to do this I think it would be done. having lived in scotland for a while I know that most any grassy areas turn very soggy within minutes and stay that way for days if it rains. gravel and asroturf simply gets wet. I do agree going back to grass would be best but only if appropriate drainage systems could be put into place.
I do think this is a very good idea though. gravel and astro turf do in no way mimick the fell and pull of real grass, so when palyers get out there it is more work on their legs when they are in the grass.
I'm with you malky , kids are not suppose to play on gravel or ash ,so why have them in the 1st place ,only place Ive seen red ash is the french open tennis ,and i cant recall the last french winner of that either ,so it does there tennis players as much good as our football players
