How do I improve my sprinting speed?
I would like to know if anyone has any advice or techniques they can share with me on how one goes about training to improve running speed. I would like to know so I can improve my all-round ability on the rugby field.
Answers:
well, a combination of things. 1st you must go to the work out and get more arm and leg muscle, 2nd build endurance and 3rd strenghten/ stretching of the psoads
work on strong and lean muscles in arms and legs
run long distance and as your doing it sprint then jog sprint jog (called fartliks)
and stretch your psoads which are muscles that allow you to make you legs move quicker which makes turn over faster. Turn over is the action where your legs go back and forth. to strengthen psoads do high knees and karaoke and field sprints.
my son is a sprinter so i can tell you.... you have to use your arms and push the air from in front of you. my son did that and he won his race
Go to train at a sports club, or get a good trainer
there are a number of options here .. 1st go to brixton and call a black person a bad name ( this really will improve your speed ) 2 punch a copper and see if you can out run them ( good for stamina ) or option 3 go to a rangers Vrs celtic match and stand in the wrong end and cheer when rangers score . this will improve your overall strength
It is really short sprint speed you need first and foremost. The first explosive ten yards can be all you ever require over the distances you will need in rugby. I am friendly with one of the most experienced talented number 10's in the world here in "Ulster" and he has passed on a few tips to me. From a starting point run to a line five yards ahead of you and back. Then to a line ten yards ahead of you and back, and again to lines at 15 and 20 yards ahead of you and back respectively. Build up your stamina and ground sppeed in this way. Time yourself and watch just with continuous practice the times will drop. When for a period they seem to be stationery you have probably peaked. Then it is a maintenance job to stay at peak level. Best of luck Speedy!
Well i would use Resistance training, like maybe wearing a heavy rucksack or baggy shell suit bottoms while doing your normal sprint repetitions, or in the gym quick reapportions with the leg weights should strengthen the muscles used for sprinting, quite a low tech answer but it just might work, I think the theory is sound
an Olympic sprinter tied a rope bound his waist and the other end round a load of tiers you could also use concrete blocks.
Just practice hard with the best coach on your side and you will do wonders.
What worked for me when I was a rugby player ( a wee time ago lol ) , was to concentrate on the speed at which I swung my arms back and forth , then match my step speed to my arms ..may sound like a tripe idea but its what my coach told me .and it worked .. leg strength also helped .practice leaning up to one of the forwards and see who can push over his opponent .if you dig in deep you'll be surprised how much of a challenge it is , and how it increases your legs durability . i was a wee winger and no forward in my team ever pushed me backwards !
