Why must there be so many boxing organsations?
At the moment, a global overview reveals that there are more than 20 independent international organisations and over 50 world-level titles in each weight class (so times seventeen is 800+ current reigning men boxing world champions). Would it not be better for the viewers if these were merged or linked so that there was actually a chance that two of the best boxers would ever meet each other?
Answers:
The more titles there are, the more championship fights, the more championship fights there are, the more money flowing in from sanctioning fees for the matches.
I agree. I lie awake at night sweating about it.
What you are saying (merging the titles) would most likely be called "the return of boxing." And I assume they'll do this in a few years and I really have no clue why there are so many titles. My guess is that maybe boxing isn't a organized sport much like football and baseball so that all these title federations (WBF, IB.) have gained popularity equally over the past 20 years so it would make it difficult to do such a thing unless a billionair bought the rights of all these federations then I would see a merge happen.
i agree it would be better if there was less although there is one simple reason for this... money... t.v and other commercial aspects will always demand more. personally i think it all started with don king although to lay the blame purely at his feet is probably a bit harsh.
I guess it all comes down to money. Fighters fight for money, trainers train for money promoters promote for money. Ever seen a volunteer boxing association?
