How do best defend against the long ball game in football, and how do you score goals against long ball sides?

Answers:
Teams who play long ball, play it for a reason. Obviously they haven't got a very good midfield as they are bypassing them. It also suggests they may have a big or quick (or maybe both) striker and want to get the ball to him as quick as possible. To defend against this, my advice would be to ensure at least one centre back is quick and good in the air. If neither centre back are quick, then play slightly deeper in order to combat this (dont give space in behind your defence).

To score a goal against this, I would pack out the midfield and try play the ball down the wings. By playing down the wings, you can get your midfield to arrive late in the box and hopefully get on the end of any crosses.

Just be aware that long ball teams are usually quite physical as this makes up for their lack of skill! Fight fire with fire!
Counter attack.
u should have long legs , u should open ur legs wide open to defend

u should be very quick
5 - 4 -1 on defence ensuring man to man marking and do not play the offside trap when defending. on the attack you need to keep the ball at the back passing and switching play accross your defenders tiring out the strikers from the opposition then try to entice one of there midfielders into attacking you, this is your golden oppertunity to counter.
i so don't understand football.
Pretty difficult to come up with tactics unless you know alot more about the opposition.

If i was going to have a go though, i'd pull more people back in defence, when a team plays the long ball they usually stretch their team out across the length of the pitch, having players back will allow you to win the ball after the long ball attack and then you can counter-attack in numbers using the space they have left.
the long ball game depends on the ability of the players launching the ball forward, close them down, also the target man's job is to challenge for the ball, usually in the air,and allow midfielders to pick up second ball, hustle them.to counter attack use wing play! Easy!
Against the long ball, you should defend deeper, giving them less space to get into, and also use a sweeper where possible.
by stopping of the by the goalkepper,by playing a long shot
