Does anyone agree with the proposal of making all the small teams enter through a qualifying round?
for example the euro's as teams like andorra and san marino etc are just a waste of time playing.
Answers:
yes but how would they catergorise them all have u seen the fifa world rankings lately .
yes
how are these small countires supposed to improve if they don't ever get a chance to play the big boys?
No sir I m not agree with your comment. All team who have the ability to play in final round should play. Because then only we can see the majic incident in big tournament.
i think it would improve the smaller nations to compete at a similar level, but everyone loves a cricket score - germany last night for example.
no because if anything they are good practise matches
They won't get the chance to improve if that happens. And football will become elitest, which is something that football has always gone against. Its for everyone and everyone should have an equal chance. We all love matches that finish 20-0 and we all love upsets so the current provision is fine thank you!
I agree. The games against the "weaker brothers" do not add anything to the competition. Some of them even go so far as to play very rough (Andorra) to compensate for their lack in quality.
The argument that they cannot improve that way is not true because some of them will still qualify for the qualification. You could take for example the teams that ended last in the last qualification (2004), that would also include Northern Ireland, but not Cyprus. That is maybe a flaw in this system. Another option is to select the bottom so many of the European teams in the FIFA ranking (or a UEFA ranking) (this would include Iceland) and have them play a competition.
They get the change to gather points by beating each other, they will win more than they do now.
It is a complex problem, that will need careful consideration. The teams that will not qualify will still be able to play friendlies until the next competition.
All this discussion of course can be undone when San Marino beat Germany in the return match !!
not really, its easy points for the bigger teams, and its probably the biggest day of the footballing life for the players of some of the smaller teams.i say keep it as it is.
No, I don't think the rich teams should be gifted a place further along in the competition. The small teams make useful money from these matches.
You never know there could always be an upset. What next? Why not only play the final between Germany and Italy?
Its a good idea to have a pre-qualifying tournament for the minnows. That way you could set up a sort of promotion/relegation system between the bigger and lesser nations. It would be a similar idea to that used in the Davis Cup (tennis)
yeah, yeah good idea...make football, the people's game, a club for the elite..i suggest you go to one of these countries and see how patriotic they are..san marino is the oldest republic in the world..all these countries have every right to be there. it's not a question of who's the best, it's a question of each nation getting equal representation
how else do you think these countries even get to play big matches? matches like this keep their people interested.
i like to think that there is at least one competition (surprise, surprise, the EUROPEAN chamionship) where at the start, every european team gets equal oppurtunity..do you even realise how arrogant you sound? "a waste of time"? everybody plays them, home and away. i'm sure they don't think it's a waste of time, or they would simply withdraw from uefa. so there, straight away your argument is voided. this is typical of the england fans, these countries play for years and the first time england play them everybody complains and says it's pointless. ah, fu.ck off. chris waddle can fu.ck off too, the shite twat. may they long continue to enter our competitions
Yes it should definitely happen it would be much better for the smaller teams as they would at least win some games. It can't be good for any team going out every game just trying to keep the score in single figures. It also makes to many qualifying games for the better countries
