Club length?

I have just recovered from major back surgery. I had the 8th & 9th Vertibrae removed from my spine & I dont want to lose distance on my driving and long iron shots.
Question:
Should I shorten my clubs to compensate for my loss in height from the operation, or, Lengthen the clubs & stand further away from the ball to compensate for the loss in swing arc diameter.?

Answers:
Have you noticed lately that Tiger is gone to longer clubs and stands further from the ball..seems to be working quite well from him. I stick with your clubs and stand a little farther away. Good luck to you.
Yoy will get more distance from the quality of contact than from pure club speed. This is true. Therefore, whatever length club you can control is the best one for you. Find a local golf professional who will give you a free club fitting and you can't go wrong.
you had two vertebrae removed? thats sounds very serious. it wasn't a diskectomy (removal of vertebral discs) or a laminectomy (removal of lamina)? if you actually had vertebrae removed you should carefully check with an orthopedic surgeon to make sure it is still safe for you to make a full golf swing. good luck.
I'm with Richard457. That is very serious. Check with your physician first. He or she may be able to refer you to a kinesiologist or sports trainer to assist you with your recovery.

Also, it may be necessary to modify your swing to allow for physiological changes. After these issues have been addressed, then worry about the equipment changes.

Please don't rush things. I'd hate for you to get hurt. Take it slow, the game will be waiting for you when you're ready. Good luck.
Warnings being given (and I agree) I would not shorten my clubs unless it is more comfortable. The more you shorten the clubs the stiffer they are. The more flexible your shafts the more work they do. If you do not want to lose distance, do not shorten your clubs. I would also look into a senior flex club (I have no idea how slow your swing was and is) so you can let the shaft do the work instead of your back.
hi im a golf pro but standing at 5ft 6 i still havent altered the length of my clubs but the lie angle was altered.if you do go ahead make sure u go to a proper pro as you'll need the swing weights altering too.good luck hope this helps
Lengthen the shaft and your swing will suffer. I would bet you need to shorten you shaft in the near term. The strenght of the back and the resulting strain from longer shafts could be a disaster. Expect to hit the ball shorter in the immediate future it's a fact of golf.
sounds like you need to get better first, then see what its like once you you hsve played a dozen times or so.Then think about it after that.
Good luck to you though. Whats your handicap ?
