Ivan Basso leaves Team CSC where to now?

What professional team will sign him and why should they after his involvement in Operacion Puerto drug scandal?

Answers:
The whole state of the sport is pretty volatile right now. I'm not certain that many teams would risk signing him, even if he hasn't been found guilty, because just having your name associatted with doping at moment will cause sponsors to look the other way. Plus, if you're the d.s., are you willing to put 60 jobs on the line for a guy who may or may not be clean? Look what happened at Astana-Wurth, that's a lot of miles wasted. Phonak dropped their entire program. 60 guys out of work. I may be somewhat biased, because I draw pay from the same money pool, but would you risk hiring a guy that me be on drugs to come work where you work? With the sport so deep in the gutter at the moment, whole teams just vaporising, the risk just doesn't live up to the potential benefit. Ivan is an amazing rider, but dirty or not, he's perceived as a doper.
Perhaps the Discovery Channel team
dont think anyone would want to sign him if hes been in a drugs scandle.
His innocence or guilt remains to be seen. If the UCI doesn't ban him he will be allowed to join any team willing to pay. He may ask for less money, but unless he is banned he will be allowed to ride. Many middle rung teams would love to pick up a Tour podium potential for the exposure.
The Italian Olympic Committee recommended last week that doping accusations against Basso be dropped.

Basso told French sports daily L'Equipe on Monday that he has been courted by Discovery Channel, the former team of seven-time Tour champion Lance Armstrong.

"They made me a concrete proposal, but I am open to other solutions," said Basso, adding that there was also a chance he could join an Italian team.

Discovery Channel manager Johan Bruyneel confirmed his team's interest in Basso. Bruyneel has been looking for a replacement for Armstrong since he retired in 2005 after his Tour win.

Lets cross our fingers and hope, God knows Discovery needs somebody.
johan might have an interest in basso but they have just signed a new guy as team leader and im fairly sure discovery wont touch him at all until the drug scandle is completly over.
Basso to Discovery!! I hope it happens. The doping allegations will fade. He will get signed.somewhere.
