Was Zidane right to head-butt Materazzi to protect the honour of his sister?

Apparently Materazzi tugging Zidane shirt Zidane said ''If you want my shirt so much I'll give it to you afterwards''. Materazzi turned round and said I'd prefer his sister Hence the head-butt

Answers:
It wouldn't be the best way to go about it and I'm not so sure it does anything to redeem his families honour but think Materazzi had it coming. The so called hard man went down like a sack of crap and fully deserved it. Shame Zidane had to see red which in itself was a bit of a joke because it seems as if none of the officials actually saw it happen except for after on the big screen which technically they can't take into account.
no he was well out of order, if david beckham can take abuse from fans about his wife and turn his back on it a fellow professional like zidane should be able to do it as well. its part of the game to insult and wind another person up
Nah, I don't think he was. You hear so much rubbish during a game. He should have just been the bigger man and ignored it.
No
Cos that's what he wanted him to do .
Yes he was. Too many people insult others by calling in their family. The words of cowards like that should not go unpunished.
He didn`t complete the job, he should also have booted him in the bawz.
Don't quite see how a headbut protects the honour of his sister!
Supposed to be a professional and at his age just should not rise to the comment

But i reckon since he decided to leave his professionalism behind him and go for it them he should hace nuted him in the head not the chest
And people are STILL talking about it.

Of course, the two countries play each other tonight.
YEAH SURE HE WAS RIGHT WHAT HE WHERE HAVE TO DO THEN HE WAS ANGRY ITS WAS THE GAME THAT IT WILL SAY HOW 'LL BE THE HERO SO HE WERE HAVE TO MORE THEN THAT I THINK BUT HE WAS RIGHT
Didn't know that was what it was about but there is no excuse, Zidane should have had restraint, he is in a position where people look up to him and his country were relying on him. Of course, if he wanted a 'private word' with Materazzi afterwards then thats a different matter. Retaliation on the pitch never gets anyone anywhere, remember the David Beckham kick?
If this is true, it is admirable.
ZIDANE WAS A PLONKER!!
no well out of order.his best reply would have been to score a goal.Zidane was perhaps one of worlds greatest players of current time .It was a bad way to go out on a red.But i will remember him best for weaving his magic on the pitch both scoring and creating goals. He was a master of ball control he will be missed badly by French team and everyone who enjoyed his creative style of play.Think all defenders will raise a massive sigh of relief on his retirement .
No
he was wrong to do it. he wanted to end his carreer with another world cup medal.
Temper caused this unfortunate spectacle in front of millions of
viewers. If he had the urge to revenge Materazzi, he should have
done it after the game, but If so, I think his temper would have
burnt all adrenaline. Both were wrong but only Zidane‘s part
was visible. It is saddening but he still is a national hero, more so
than before.
hell yeah he was right...I've would have given Matterazi a punch in his face.Matterazi were just showing how much of a dirty player he was by tugging players jersey..the way zidane replied was exceptional
yes,he probably said mother! the italians can only win by cheating!
no
Zidane was insane with jealous thoughts of losing his sex partner to another man.
Yes Without a Doubt
yeah!!materazzi told that.
No. He should have just ignored it. It wasn't the worst insult I've ever heard anyway. This happens in soccer every day and if everybody reacted the same way, there wouldn't be a player left on the field. However I don't think we should let it detract from what a brilliant player Zidane was. There are not too many players who haven't done something stupid at some time in their career. His misfortune was that it happened in the World Cup final in his very last game.
He clearly thought it through and thought it was appropriate. Then he "apologises" to the children, agreeing it was wrong, but he doesn't regret what he did. In my mind that isn't an apology. It's such a shame as he was undoubtedly one of the most talented and effective players of his generation, proving it by the medals/cups he won internationally and at European club level.
i thought it was his mother and i would of done something like that. If someone called my Mum a whore but not if they called my mother-in-law it lol
No way, he should have done it for the fun of it!
Not blame it on him insulting his sister!
Personally I would have run off the pitch, picked up the world cup and use it to bash over the head of Materazzi
I would have thought that a player of Zidane's calibre would ignore stupid comments made by a player like Materazzi. I know he protecting his sisters honour but is Materazzi really worth the effort!?
I think Materrazzi said something worse and he wants more publicity now for tonight's game, that´s why he has opened his mouth this week to talk about the incident.
i think so
No! Thats ridiculous - footballers give each other personal abuse all the time to wind each other up. Not that that should be acceptable - but responding to it is just as stupid.
