I can't tell you his exact current salary - but he would definitely be one of the lower paid players in the first team.
At Southampton (his previous club) all the players' salaries were halved in early 2005 because the club was in deep financial trouble. His salary was reduced to £4,000 a week according to The Sunday Mirror at the time. This sounds a lot but is only equivalent to what the average Division 1 player gets.
Liverpool were the only team after him - and were widely regarded as taking a large risk in signing him. I would imagine that they could have offered him £15-20,000 a week and he would have bitten their hand off (bigger club/higher profile/more incentive payments/etc).
He's certainly justified his (up to) £7m transfer fee already - and is on a 4-year contract. A good deal all round.
Especially for England - who just can't seem to sort out their strikers - he is probably first pick now with Rooney's ongoing slump and Defoe's poor form (and Johnson's injuries).
as much as his head is worth
far 2 much coz he aint that good and sld not b plyin 4 england
