What is the 'D' for outside the penalty box on a football pitch ( soccer ) ?
Answers:
To keep the other team from creeping up behind the kicker and HEADBUTTING him.
to show the required distance to keep from the ball when a penalty is taken. (9.15 meters)
to make it look nice
to mark out direct or indirect freekicks ..the width of the goal..
Walter is right - the distance from the penalty spot the other players have to be ( I think it used to be 10 yeards, now 9.5m)
When players take a penalty, the player taking it has to stand outside the D or the referee does something, but I'm not sure what! Hope it helps! (*^_^*)
the D is an arc 10 yards from penalty spot. At all free kicks opponents must be minimum 10 yards away, at penalties this applies to both teams, so all players other than penalty taker and goalkeeper must remain outside the arc or penalty area until the ball has been kicked.
