I have another 2and a half years to reach balck belt what keeps you motivated to stick with martial ats?
Answers:
It took me 3 yrs to reach the level of black belt in Taekwondo. I started sparring midway between my yellow and green belt. How you stay motivated depends upon what you are trying to get out of it. I am sorry to say, and I don't mean to be rude here, that if you are still 2.5 years away from black belt and already asking this question, then maybe this isn't what you want. When you become a black belt, you are going to realize that it isn't the end of the journey, but instead, a new beginning. When you become a black belt is when the trainning really becomes more serious and you start to learn all the really cool stuff the disipline has to offer. Maybe knowing that will be your motivation. In either case, I wish you the best of luck in your trainning.
sexy instructor
I dunno
come train with me and I will show you sparring :)
do u hav an ex? think bout punchin him/her
An inspirational, always energetic and enthusiastic teacher. And good classmates to train with. And a feeling of growth, both spiritual and physical. It shouldn't be about grades.
Bruce Lee did it for me
15+ in Tai Chi Chuan
15+ in Shotokan 5th dan
4 years in Iaito
I started sparring about 15 years ago.
4 years ago for Iaito with my cousin and brother. We are now doing Iaito since I have a black belt in shotokan and know all forms in Tai chi.
The chicks, what more reason do you need to do anything and as for sparring they are open 8 till late feel free to go anytime you like.
Isn't it fun.
Depends on your ranking now.
I see by your Id name, you must take TaeKwonDo, as I too have taken this art I will try to explain and enlighten you.
The ranking system in the original days, was White, then Dingey Yellow, Green, Brown, Then Black, or often Black and White/ThreadBare. As you were learning, you never washed your belt.ever. Disrespectful to do so. So it got yellow over time from use. Then as your skills progressed and you learned to tumble, fall, spar, etc.green from outdoors. Grass/and other green leaves. Brown came next either from extream use/dirtness or from outdoor use in dirty feilds. Some also think that Red Belts were added around this time as your skills got you or others injured.? But Black was attained after such time as the belt was so detererated that it became black in color. As I stated earlier it often also had white threads showing through. This would usually indecate a higher level of wisdom had been attained.
All of this may just be urban leagon, as it goes, but it makes sence to me. Additonal colors (Orange,Blue,Red,Purple, etc)we. added in the USA back in the 60's and 70's so Americans would not give up and would see that they were progressing towards a goal. This is where you are now so I would guess around yellow to green. You should start spparing around green belt, yet it depends on your skills and if the instructor feels you are ready.
Good Luck and don't give up.it helps you in all of your life, including driving cars.
the fact that i'm betterign myself drives me. Making my frame better and muscles bigger and teh fact i can defend myself without a weapon or soem one holdign my hand. When you get your black belt its a good way to show taht you have initiative and motivation to stick to things for that matter to say i stuck at this for years and worked hard to achieve this. if those arn't reason enough to motivate you. your not training hard enough. If you train really hard it takes your mind off wondering why you should jsut do it and just doing it. I guess nike was right. hahah JUST DO IT!
I just got my black belt this summer, and I know what your talking about. What kept me motivated was just knowing I'm this far into the game. It was hard, but you just have to keep pushing yourself and never give up! I started sparring when I was a blue belt.
the reasons that i still do karate.
It makes me relaxe and feel calmer eventhough it is a very hard contact sport.
There is a really cute boy a year older than me that does it. (i think he likes me)
And when i get really stressed its fun to kickand punch something without getting suspended or yelled at.
I enjoy it. Tjhe grades are definitly not my motivation allthough it is interesting to do a grading test. But I think the only reason one keeps at it is the fact that they enjoy doing it,and feel they are learning a valuable lesson
What motivated me was mostly competitions
And The absolutely gorgeous instructor 2 work with
I started Martial Arts at 11. When I was 17 i became a Black Belt 3rd Dan in Shuko-Kai. I have studied 14 styles of Martial Arts and what makes me keep coming back?
Yes the physical benefits are nice but as you get older the spiritual journey drives you on,
To think one day you can feel at one with yourself and be sure of of your thoughts, beliefs and comments you make. And to know that you can avoid confrontation at all costs but should you ever be in a situation of no escape you can protect yourself and your family with the skills and discipline you have gained.
That should drive you on so train hard and do not be afraid to challenge your instructors and try your own ideas. Only you know yourself. Good luck and enjoy your journey.
I'm afaird you have future in black belt factory, you will never be able to fight, you will be spending rest of your life doing kata and talk about how you're too dangerous to spar or fight when deep inside you know you can't even outfight a 5 years old girl.
You seems to be in martial arts for very very wrong reason. You seems to only want black belt to impress people. I guess you're one sorry pathetic wimp and weak person to want a black belt to show off so much.
Well, when you start sparring is dependent entirely upon your dojo and style. In my dojo, you start sparring when you're a white belt and continue on from there.
As far as the motivation thing, that's personal. I've done martial arts for fifteen some-odd years now, at different dojos. I've been at the same dojo for eight years, and just finished my first full year as a black belt. I think I stayed motivated for two reasons:
First of all, I just really enjoy the martial arts. It's something I'm really good at, and I enjoy working out, and the bonding that has occured between myself and the people at my dojo. They're my family now, and it's awesome.
Second of all, it was never really about the ranks for me. I mean, it's great getting a new belt and all, and believe me, getting my black belt was unreal. But I never did it BECAUSE I wanted the belt. My main motivation for getting my black belt was actually my desire to start teaching my own students. I help out with three classes a week now, and my brother and I hope to open up our own dojo together in the future.
My advice to you is to not do martial arts for the belt. It cheapens it, and makes motivation harder. Figure out why you started doing it, and whether or not that reason is still good enough for you. If it's not, either find a new one, or quit. The martial arts are not for everyone. I do hope you find one though. It is most definitely a worthwhile lifestyle choice.
Knowing that one day my day will come and I will get black belt I hung onto that since I was 8 I am 19 now got my black belt a few months back. I am getting really good at kumite however it's a mental thing. Look into your opponents eyes next time you spar they tell you when he's going to move. And loosen you muscle don't be tense and remember you are in charge. You will have good and bad nights. If you had a nice apple tree in your back yard you would not cut it down for the sake of a few bad apples. Not when you can throw away the bad apples. Same with all martial arts the negativity is normal but it holds you back make every thing as good as you can then your are a true martial artist regardless of the colour of your belt. I have seen people change for the worse when they get black belt because they don't have the right mentality they think they have nothing left to learn.
Your in charge of your emotions and your martial arts good luck.
your bullshiting! what belt are you on now?? it must be red, if you cant motivate yourself then dont do it,!!
I personally enjoy the team spirit of the club I attend and the sparring is not what I enjoy most, learning new things is what keeps me going back. Even when I do the same old stuff I often see an improvement which helps with the motivation.
Been looking for a book by Gary Purdue called 'beyond the black belt' but not found one reasonably enough priced yet you might try giving that as well as all the other litrature on the market a try
