Remember being told that a mountian is a hill over 1,000 feet tall, work in metres myself, but I rememebr this as the Eifell tower is slightly over that so therefore is as tall as a mountain, though it does shrink by six inches due to contaction . am I going off the subject a bit here?
Search google for Monroe' s they are hill sover 3,000 feet but that might be just those in Scotland; believe the highest mountain in England is Eil Bell in Cumbria

Mountains in Britain are those that are over 3000 ft. The tallest mountain in Scotland (and Britain) is obviously Ben Nevis, in Wales its Snowden, and in England its Scafell Pike.
Any mountain over 3000ft in Scotland is known as a Munroe, and there are 284 of them (See The Munros - Scottish Mountaineering Club Hillwalkers Guide Edited by Donald Bennet).
The Lake District is home to Englands tallest mountains, including Scafell Pike, Helvelyn and Skiddaw, but I'm not sure of the number over 3000ft.
Snowdonia and the North West of Wales also have a few mountains over 3000ft, but again I'm not sure on numbers.
Really, if you want big mountians in Britain, Scotland is the best place as it has a few mountains over 4000ft with some excellent technical climbing.
The most challanging (and dangerous) mountains in Britain are the Cullin mountains on the Isle of Skye with some excellent ridges, including the only Munro where you need rock climbing experience & gear to ascend it.
