Why is a boxing ring called a ring if it is a square?
Answers:
The name ring is an atavism from when contests were fought in a roughly drawn circle on the ground, the name ring continued with the Jack Broughton rules (1743) specifying a small circle in the centre of the fight area where the boxers met at the start of each round. The first square ring was introduced by the Pugilistic Society in 1838, the ring was specified as 24 feet square and bound by two ropes.
why are bread slices square if sandwich meat is round
they do it to be contrary.
if you got hit that many times you wouldn't know the difference either.. lol.
They have a bell to signal the start and end of a round. When the bell rang punches were thrown. Thus the reason they call it a ring like a bell ring.
really cant help ya with this one!
Hey I hope this helps with your problem of the squared circle.

Ring is another term for a boundary that surrounds something, or it used to be. A ring that surrounds your finger is round, because your finger is round. A boxing ring surrounds a boxing match. It could be any shape, I guess, but it happens to be square.
I think originally, before the elevated platforms were built, boxing matches simply took place in a ring that had been drawn or painted onto the ground. They kept the term ring for tradition.
Because most boxers and people who are boxing fans have such a limited mental capacity that they still haven't noticed the paradox of the name.SHAME!
I think because many, many years ago when men used to box, the other men standing around would form a ring around the boxers. Now it's squared, in a gym like setting but the term boxing ring is still used to this day. Something I learned some time ago.
don't know, but clever thinking
when boxing first started people formed a circle with the two opponents in the centre of the circle once fight had started any boxer knocked into people forming circle were then pushed into the centre to continue boxing until one was knocked out
good question, why is bread square and lunch meat round. Who knows the strange ways we as humans do things :) I do know one thing that's called right U.F.C. theirs is called an octagon and that's really the shape.
WHO CARES
