As a fan of both MMA and boxing let me clear up a few misconceptions. First of all, I really dislike the animosity expressed by some boxing fans toward MMA and vice versa. Both are sports and not "real fights". The best MMA fighters in the world would get their *** handed to them in a boxing match, and most boxers would have a tough time in a MMA fight. That's not a dis to either sport--they're just different sports with different rules and different skills. It's like saying that Julius Peppers is a great NFL player, so he should be able to throw on ice skates and dominate in the NHL.

Unfortunately, Tyson isn't *really* fighting in PRIDE. He's signed for a series of exhibition boxing matches on PRIDE cards against hand picked opponents. If you a) kept up on the MMA/boxing news you would have known this and b) had read a few of the other posts you would have known this since I answered a question on Tyson just yesterday. At this point in his career, however, I'm not sure that even his handpicked "exhibition" opponents can't beat him.

If Tyson did compete in PRIDE he would lose to just about any of their top fighters--the top heavyweights/light heavyweights like Fedor Emelieneko, either of the Nogeuira brothers, or Wanderlei Silva would beat him easily. He might have a chance against Mirko "Cro Cop" Fillpovic, since Mirko isn' much of a ground fighter. Of course Tyson would be fighting in Mirko's element and its not like "Iron Mike" would know how to defend Mirko's lethal high left kick. I won't disparage Tyson by comparing him to Butterbean, but the Bean got submitted in his PRIDE debut a week or so ago by a guy who he outweighed by 250 lbs. The guy knocked him to the ground, arm barred the blubbery pseudo-pugilist and that was the end of the story. It wouldn't be much different for Tyson..

But to say that Tyson would get schooled in PRIDE isn't a function of any superiority of MMA to boxing--its him fighting younger fighters, who still have their head and heart in the game in a sport that he has no experience at.

Having seen several amateur boxers in "real" street fight situations, believe me its a good skill to have in that situation. Knowing how to throw a punch is always a good weapon in a real fight situation.
a 'real' fight. You have to be kidding me. In a real fight you can hit below the belt, bite and hit in the throat.
how long has tyson been in pride ?
