Is Ricky Hatton making the right moves for his career?

Ricky hasn't fought for a while since his somewhat unconvicing victory against collazo. I agree with the decision for his to return to light welter because clearly he's more comfortable at this weight but if he's really aiming to prove himself the best over light welter and welter, he's got to fight Mayweather. This is a fight that Ricky has claimed to want for a while and it's been talked about some time now. When is Ricky going to finally go after this fight or at least make steps in the right direction for a fight that I'm sure is going to happen sooner or later. And with RIcky's deal with HBO, aren't they going to lose interest soon if he doesn't fight anyone worthy?

Answers:
Hatton wont get in the ring with Mayweather as he showed he will struggle to compete at welter with a lacklustre display over Collazo, Mayweather is looking to move up not down in weight and he really doesnt need Hatton. Nobody in America would care if Mayweather and Hatton didnt get in the ring there are more interesting fights that Mayweather can make and Hatton is the one left without many options.

I think a few peoples views on this thread are a bit harsh regarding Hatton, im not a fan of his but ill admit he will give anyone at Welter a good fight and i cant see anyone at Lightwelter beating him.

I will say im really suprised that ive developed the view that Ricky made a mistake leaving Frank Warren, he got him the Tzsyu fight and put him in a position where there was some real interest in him, then Hatton left and has let his star burn out with some really poor opponent choices.

He should forget America for now and fight Witter, thats a fight every British fight fan would love to see, he has avoided Witter for the far to long now and has run out of excuses to avoid the fight, i think if they get in the ring together we would have a real British fight of the year and one that could spark an interest on the other side of the Atlantic as they seem to like a good rivalry and fights with a good clash in styles.
Go Ricky
Ricky certainly isn't making the right moves. Whether the British boxing fans want to admit it or not he's got to fight a whole hell of a lot more in America against WORTHY opponents. He has what I think are two interesting fights left in the Jr. Welter division. That would be Miguel Cotto, and Jose Luis Castillo. Interesting but dangerous fights. The reason I believe he has went back to the Jr. Welter division is because of the fight with Collazo. If Collazo gave him that tough of a fight he probably is questioning his ability to handle Mayweather, although he won't admit it publicly.
Hatton and his people thought the fight against Collazo was going to be a walk in the park. As a fellow yahoo boxing forum man by the name of Santana D said in response to one of my questions about who would win a potential matchup between Hatton and Cotto. "Ricky me boy we want you to travel all the way over to America and look as bad as you possibly can against that boy Luis". Obviously that wasn't their intention but it happened. He came over here and got a taste of what it's like and I don't think it agreed with his tastebuds. Hatton's work out regimen is fierce but it doesn't make up for lack of talent when you are fighting the boys in the States. He's a hardnosed fighter who doesn't quit, that you can't take away from him, but I don't think he wants a part of the Welterweight division. HBO will lose interest in Hatton if he decides not to fight top flight competition in the welterweight class, and if he doesn't fight more often in the States. I know it's sounds like I'm just another smug American boxing fan but it is reality.
Arion L great question and well thought out.
he's making the right decisions cuz if he fights mayweather he's gonna get his *** wooped
I probably shouldnt even answer this question because i know how anti English my fellow boxing fanatics are on this site, but all i can say is if pbf ever does decide to drop back down to light-welter which i doubt, he could not compete with the Hitman and to me that was the reason he ran away from that particular division in the first place. I agree that Ricky looked pathetic at welter and he never carried the punch up with him but another thing i would say to you is that you are underrating Collazo who i think will definitely come back and win titles in the Welter division, he has great handspeed and decent movement and plus he is a solid welter. I think the overriding factor in all of this is that Ricky has realised that the Welter division is not there for the taking like he thought it was so therefore go back down to his natural weight and dominate everyone like he has been for the last few years, look out america the Hitman is coming.

In my opinion, Ricky only established one thing when he came to America to fight Collazo in his "Coming out" party, that he's truly an overrated and hyped fighter who stepped up in competition and was exposed for what kind of fighter he really is, a tough guy with lots of heart but very one demensional.
Brent F hits the nail right on the head with his answer to your question and should be given "Best Answer" because his opinion is right on the money. The truth of the matter is this, if Ricky comes back to America to fight against a legitimate top ten guy he gets beat. Any fighter can look great against the competition they were feeding Ricky in England. It seems that England is so starved for a great Champion that they jump on any ones band wagon, Joe Calzaghe, they're ready to call him great for beating a one dimensional Jeff Lacey, who has Joe fought that fight fans know or heard of here in America? The fans were quick to call Hamed "Great" until he was exposed in his fight with Barrera, England is all geared up to call Amir Khan the next "Great" fighter and there's even talk of him fighting Ricky. Who has this guy fought to even be considered "Great"? I'll tell you who, Vitali Martynov, Colin Bain and Laszlo Komjathi. Never heard of them? Me either or any other selfrespecting fight fan, but Englands ready to embrace him as it's next "Great" Fighter and pushing him on any publication that would care to print his name.
As a former fighter I respect anybody who climbs between the ropes and has the sack to get in there and mix it up, but the people of England have been deprived of a truly "Great" boxer for quite some time and are just reaching for the stars.
Arion, the best thing for Ricky to do considering his career is, stay in England, keep fighting the hand picked guys he's been fighting in England, save a few more pounds (dollars) and retire and become a legend he deserves to be over in England because if he comes to America again and tries fighting the same way he did against Collazo, his career will indeed be short and disastorious.
Thanks for the question Arion.

Frank D, I admire your answers and questions. You certainly know your boxing. I am not Anti English, two of my very best friends are English and live in England.
RICKY IS GOING TO BE FACING A REAL THOUGH OPPONENT IN JUAN URANGO.
I DO NT KNOW WHY BUT HIS VICTORY OVER COLLASO DID NOT IMPRESS ME AT ALL.
HE NEEDS TO PULL A KO VICTORY AGAINST URANGO TO SHOW THE AMERICAN PEOPLE THAT HE DESERVES A FIGHT WITH MAYWEATHER
Ricky is making all the right moves. . yeah i agree his next fight with Urango isn't brillant but he has something Ricky wants and that's his I B F world title back . . when you have a world title its easier to make bouts with top class opposition because you have more to bargain with .
Have you seen Ricky Hatton lately ? The way he looks, he'll be fighting valuev for the heavyweight crown very soon !
